will dispense well through a Dillon 550 progressive machine
for loading 75-80 gr. bullets in the AR-15? I tried some Varget today and didn't have much luck as apparently that powder was getting stuck in the throat of the outlet and throwing a double charge.....and consequently powder all over the damn place! Thought maybe a ball powder would work but Win 748 is only listed for the lighter bullets!

Thanks!

Go slower, like BLC-2, or the new CFE223. If you want to try a very fine single base powder Benchmark would be an option as well.

748 works fine with heavy bullets.

I read somewhere where some powders, especially ball, use nitroglycerine which was not performing as well at distance and causing premature throat erosion.

Can any of you barrel burners comment on this?

It's the Heat Potential of powder that is the culprit. I guess that is loosely related to nitroglycerin content. Depends on how much NG is in it.

But, as a rule, most ball powders and 748 especially, are formulated to be cooler burning and enhance barrel life.

You can check out the Heat Potential of your favorite powder. It's incorporated into this barrel life estimator -- http://www.accurateshooter.com/technical-articles/excel-formula-predicts-useful-barrel-life/

H-322 for 55gr. TAC for heavies. Both work great (+- 0.1gr.) through a Dillon measure.

Found out AR Comp is a smaller extruded powder but it would probably bridge across the mouth of a small opening funnel and give erratic charges and spills!

I have an unopened bottle of AR Comp. I'll have to compare it with 322 this weekend if I get a chance.

Benchmark or IMR 8208 measure well in the Dillon measure. Basically the same powder in different containers.

Temp stable and will give good velocity with heavier 22 cal bullets.

Power Pro 2000 MR meters fine but I got about 1 fps per 1 deg of temp. It will produce high port pressure due to the burn curve with max loads.
