Doc says i have low t level and prescribes androgel. (I'm 74.) level jumps from 300-700 and all is well. My doc retires and new doc refuses to fill androgel and says it will cause an epidemic of prostate cancer. She also says I have low vitamin D levels even though just spent 3 months in the Florida sun. HuH! She shrugs. I live in rural PA and sometimes I think it is a third world country medically.

OK, one last question....
...if you get this stuff and then have erections that last for more than four hours, should you seek medical attention or contact the local Women's Civic Club instead?

I personally believe that a calorie-specific ADA diet would meet the dietary needs of most Americans and do wonders for prevention of multiple diseases.
"Paleo" diet is probably even better.
Just cutting carbs--particularly refined sugar--down to a minimum would be an improvement for most Americans. This. Worked for me. Down 50lb and on a good weight of 180 lb
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

It's pure T, bioidentical, but there are carrier agents in there that can be problematic. Absorption is unpredictable, which means we can't be sure how much T you're getting. And it rubs off on other folks... your wife, your cat, etc, and THEY can absorb significant amounts of T just from that. Besides, it's expensive as hell. I stopped prescribing Androgel a couple of years ago because of these problems and had been Rx-ing testosterone cypionate injections only. Now that I can do sub-Q pellets, I don't Rx the injections either. Cost for pellets is roughly the same as injections, and about 1/3 that of Androgel. She also says I have low vitamin D levels even though just spent 3 months in the Florida sun. You'd be surprised how low most people's Vitamin D level is. We live in sunny west Texas, and I still find about 75% of my patients' Vitamin D levels are lower than "average"... and if you're looking for cardioprotective levels, they're WAY low.

Ok, I know that's a facetious question, but I'll give a serious answer. MOST guys who have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours don't need to see a doc... I advise my patients to 1) have sex with your wife one more time (one more ejaculation usually allows detumescence), and/or apply a cold/wet facecloth to their woody for 15-20 minutes. If that doesn't work, we have things we can do in the ER that will clear it up... but I've also got to say most guys lose their wood pronto when I show them the needle I have to stick in their Willy to effect the treatment...

OK, a few years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I was treated with radioactive seed implantation. My doctor told me my T level was low but won't treat it because of the earlier cancer. Last check up I has my PSA levels were just as was my A1c for diabetes. So is being given testosterone treatment that hazardous regarding the return of cancer. I'm 77 BTW. Paul B.

Ok, I know that's a facetious question.... Oh heck Doc, at 5am this morning I thought it was hilarious still do ...and as to the 4hr erection thing, its my understanding that Viagra and testosterone are two entirely different things, with completely unrelated mechanisms. I expect a Viagra user with low T could still suffer a prolonged erection with Viagra. ...and if you take Viagra plus Iron.... you'll always point north....

PJG... if you're prostate-CA free, there is no reason you can't have testosterone supplementation. One of the execs at BioTE had prostate CA 8-10 years ago, had a prostatectomy, and with no metastases he safely started T therapy 2 years later. I don't see it being any different with your treatment... if you were treated 2+ years ago, you have no mets, then you don't have prostate CA any more so no reason why you shouldn't have testosterone pellets. I don't pellet anyone over age 75, following a guideline from my protocol... but that's not a hard line, just a guideline. I'd have to look into it more deeply.

gunner, if you feel good and you got enough lead in your pencil and a frequent enough urge to write with it, don't worry about it.
