This is probably the only reason you got it back. You may not like what he did but it can be fixed with a little love and care. smile

They are not cheap but they are the best and being it has sentimental value I'd send it here and have it restored

Never used Turnbull. But their website is all about restoration of firearms.

This. In spades.

My take.

An azzwhoopin straight ahead would be warranted, sure, but as f'd up as he left that gun, I'd be compelled to expound on his dumbphuckery at every family event we showed up to, to his face and with witnesses until he was compelled to settle it.

Then I would hit him with that broken stock.

Do you know if the damage and f'up butt stock install was done by Mike's son and not by brother Mike?

All is not lost, replacement stocks can be had, clean up the metal with steel wool and some cleaning solvent and it will perk up pretty well. If you're talking a re-finish, then things will start to get a bit difficult. Cool rifle, I go weak in the knees for the Winchester pump actions...I have an 1890, '06, two 62A's and a 61.

The 61 was the Hammerless one.

That's either an '06, or a 62A. Since it has the slim forend and a round barrel, it's either a very late 1890, or an '06. I'd say it's probably an '06.

What, exactly, did he do to it?

Well the stock issue is an easy fix. There are stocks out there and they're not expensive. And if it's an '06 then plain grain black walnut is correct, which is cheap so nothing to sweat there. Looks like it's well rusted, so a clean up with steel wool will do wonders. the action bar cover plate seems to be missing, and I really don't know how common those are, but I can't imagine it's actually unobtanium; even a Rossi part would work. Of course, it wouldn't be too hard of a part to make. God only knows what the bore looks like though.

The '06 is a takedown, so it's easy to clean up all the internals.

Sad seeing that rifle in that shape.

Kinda looks like somehow the stock broke and by turning it over it held all the pieces together.

I got what was almost a real nice Argentine Colt the other day for cheap. It had a fiberoptic front tight and some dipshit bored a 1/4" hole in the frame to install the sight.

Kend, he bored a hole in the frame?, for a front sight? that boy's not right!
or did you mean the slide? those can be some nice pistols. if the hole is in the slide a good welder can fill it and a refinish can be done. the price on those argie's has taken off in the last few.
got pics?

Hole in the slide directly below the front sight . I know a tool and die maker that I bet can weld it gone. I got the gun right though.
Just ordered a stock set from Gunville with butt plate. Shipped, 95% inlet for $130. I've bought stocks from them before and was pleased.
