Need a towing mirror for my 92 F250. I really don't want one of those slip on deals. I want a quality replacement type mirror.
The mirrors it has are the stock chrome door mount, two point, break-away style mirrors.
I really like the telescopic or tilt out mirrors common on trucks today. But all I can find for my truck is those slip on mirrors. I'd rather replace the current mirror for a better one.
I've search the intarwebs, and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Anyone know of one?
I agree with you 1000% on the inadequacy of the big black rubber band mounted towing mirror ad on's. I have towed with them, but they are pretty inadequate.
My '97 F250, with which I tow our rather wide 5th wheel, has its mirrors in a sliding adjustment set up. The morrors are bolted through a length of flat steel that has an elongated hole down its middle. One can loosen the bolt that holds down the mirror and slide it waaaaayyyy out there (like I have to for the phat beast we pull along behind us) then when not towing, loosen the two bolts for the mirrors, slide them back inboard and away you go.
My truck came so equipped when we bought it so I don't know where to send you to buy such a set up, but I would imagine a parts store or RV supplies store would stock them. So far I have liked the way mine works. When extended out, they do not vibrate enough to notice. Trying to go through ANY kind of drive through with the mirrors out far enough for towing will get you some broken mirrors and dinged up guide poles at the drive through's for the bank, hamburger joint, pharmacy etc.
Good luck in your search, hope you can find a set up like mine.

For my late, departed '93, I had an attachment arm that bolted into the mirror hole on the frame and a slide that attached to the bottom of the mirror.
It was adjustable and sturdy, but required allen wrenches to install and adjust. IIRC, I got it at NAPA, but that of course was before the power mirrors became so popular.

I have a set of slip ons for my 97 f250, still the old style like the 96s, they work great. One bolt that doesn't require tools. I don't notice any more noise and they don't move around.

I found the information on the conversion on one of the Ford truck forums. From what I read, you can contact the owner of the web site that makes the conversion for specific details. Hope this helps.
