At what time or need, does a person move up to 8X40 size screw.

Shooting a Remington long action. Lets say, 7-MM Rem. Mag. or a 300 Win. Mag. When the scope weight goes over 22 oz or so.

Is it even needed.?

What are your thoughts.

Thanks

I would think in the following scenarios

Heavy scope( more then 20 ounces) on a 6 lb rifle i.e.: Kimber Montana ULA Forbes
Muzzle brake on a heavy kicker that is lightweight no more then 8 lbs i.e.. lightweight 300 win 338 win rifle

Heavy recoiling rifle regardless of scope on anything bigger then 300 win mag

Don't overlook that it also gives you the ability to true the hole position at the same time. That is a benefit all in itself.

there are a few picatinny rails that have a recoil stop built into them, but I have punched a few mount screw holes to 8x40.

Yeah, I have 8 X 40 screws on my 338's, just didn't know if it was necessary on a 7 mag or a 300

Thanks
