Me and a friend tried it once, he got this light that you lower down on a cord. It must have been close to 20 years ago. We thought it was going to make for great night fishing. It didn't seem to work. Later we heard it was illegal. I don't know if its legal today or not.

I was curious if they would work under the ice. I figure it must be dark down there 24/7. Down here in the land of soft water, they work very well for night fishing for crappie.
