What do you guys think about re-titling the forum to something like Winchester Fans instead of Collectors? The majority of discussions have little to do with collecting, it seems. Anything post-64, for the most part, has little or no collector appeal (yet)...
Just seems apropos...sorry for being so anal if this offends anyone...

balltownbob,
I see your point, but I honestly don't see the name as a big deal one way or the other. No disrespect intended.
If it were to be renamed, I would suggest simply "Winchesters." I would hate for "Winchester Fans" to be nicknamed "Winchester Fanboys."

In my opinion, many post 64 guns have become collectible.

or you could make a new one just for M70s. That's what dominates the discussion here to the point most other Winchester posts get lost. You could call it The Riflemans Rifle forum.

There's 2 dates they carve on your tombstone. Everyone knows what they mean. What's more important is time that is known as the little dash inbetween.

I'm a fan of Winchesters and a collector of a select few pieces. The name of the sub-forum wouldn't change my view, or enjoyment, of it. Short answer - doesn't matter to me.

The way I see it is, we should consider ourselves lucky that Rick let us have our own forum. There isn't a Remington 700 forum now is there? Oh wait, that's in the gunsmithing forum.... . You know, under the bolt handle falling off, which extractor to switch to, biggest trigger/safety recall in the history of firearms, automatic firing rifle syndrome: Why does my rifle fire by itself when I push the safety forward??? etc etc etc....

BSA, You are funny. I have shot deer with an M70 and with a Rem700 and they are both just as dead. I just like Winchesters better. Here is my shpeal:
One can modify a Rem700 to try to bring it up to Win M70 standards: 1) Glue a shroud to the receiver to get a flat receiver bottom to resist bullet twist torque. 2) Get a Sako extractor modification to replace weak extractor with a bigger extractor. 3) Safety blocks trigger, not firing pin..... Gentry 3 position safety on firing pin 4) Recoil lug not attached... drill receiver and buy a Holland pinned recoil lug. 5) Barrel may shake loose, apply glue. Vaughn also has proposed Rem700 design change. 6) Bolt handle soldered on and will break off, TIG weld on handle or drill and tap and add some fasteners. 7) Not controlled feed... no cure 8) Plunger ejector instead of knife blade ejector... no cure 9) Failed case head shoots shooter in the eye with gas... wear eye protection

I can see where Bob is coming from. The word collector has various meanings, depending on your level of envolvement. Some Grouse hunters will only shoot them flying and with a Dog along. Others will knock one off a limb or ground sluce them. Are they both Grouse hunters? I think not, but others will disagree.
To the Grouse it makes little difference.:)

Reminds me of the fellow that mentioned he shot Squirrels with a shotgun. A purist .22LR Squirrel hunter replied. "I would rather have a sister who worked in a whore house, than a brother who shot Squirrels with a shotgun."
