I have a chance to buy one locally for $500. Looks to be in decent shape from the photos with zero flame cutting.
Any of you have an opinion about this move?
I'm not looking to flip it but rather add it to my stable of other obscure and often hunted .35's.
Respectfully,
Christian

Jump on it. My last two were in the $700.00 range and that was a good deal.

They ARE a special gun. Just know that if ever have a problem with it (not very likely), don't sent it to Ruger. They recalled every one of them so I believe you won't get it back.
You may want to search out the availability of ammo too. It might be an orphan.

I usually see ammo for the 357 Max at most gun shows. Nice thing is that you can shoot plain old 357 Magnum ammo, if you so choose.

You guys are great. I'm linking up with the gentleman tomorrow morning so I'll keep you posted.
File this under different strokes for different folks, the only thing this guy was interested in for partial trade was a Marlin XL7 in 308??!!

If you want something similar that Ruger still makes in the Blackhawk find one chamber in the 30 carbine. Buy the 357 max because you can always get your money back if you decide to sell later on down the road

Good deal. Now go buy some 4227 and 180 gr XTP's or WLN's. Do you have brass?

Sorry guys, I tried to put these up last night, but am quite terrible at doing so.
The guns is very clean with a couple of minor handling marks that probably came from moving a fairly large chunk of metal in and out of a safe.
EdM, I do not have brass, dies or even a press! I am planning on doing so early this summer. Working on finding a job in the Seattle area and would rather set up my bench once than try to move it. (If anyone can land me a job at Filson or Sage Fly Rods you can have this gun!)
I do think 180's will be the way to go. I can't quite get a picture of it but it looks as though the top strap is slightly recessed above the forcing cone. This is my first blackhawk, so I'm not too sure if I'm looking at a little flame cutting or this is a tooling thing.
As always, thank you for your input. Pretty cool for a dork like me to get feedback from some seriously experienced folks.
Respectfully - Christian

Hornady has scheduled to make a run of their .357 180 gr XTP bullets early summer, these bullets which have been out of production for almost 2 years. Get them while you can.

My experience is that is pretty normal for the top strap cutting then it hardens and stops. Use 4227 and heavies and you will have zero issues. I would look for brass now as runs are rare. Midway had it a bit ago.

This is my first blackhawk, so I'm not too sure if I'm looking at a little flame cutting or this is a tooling thing. Your photo: That's flame cutting (minor), but like Ed mentioned, it usually progresses then stops. Still it's a great idea to keep tabs on it.
