Hi All

The really nice 358F I picked up a couple weeks ago is going on the block. I am getting paranoid just getting it in and out of the safe. I hunt in Mt Rogers area of SW Va and have taken several falls on my arse that I would not want to subject this beauty to. And if I were to keep it, I would be adding a sling, a pad and scoping it. Sooooo....

I will again be looking for a 358 shooter grade 99. A pre mil 99R would be ideal, or a pre mil F or EG. I could warm up to a later 358 E or a brush gun. If you have something like this, and want to up grade to a collector condition gun in pre mil 358F, send me a PM. The seller I got it from was asking $2500, but I was able to trade a couple items and a fist full of $100 bills to get my cost down to $2200. I would also be open to selling this one out right.

I grew up hunting right out the mountain from there. A 99 358 was always my Dad's dream rifle. I'd use it.

I started deer hunting there in the mid 80's. Couple of us would camp out in large outfitters tent up Helton creek, complete with wood burning stove. Gets cold up there in Nov. Move into turkey hunting in late 90's. Its warmer in April/May, turkeys are easier to drag out, and they eat better. We are just finishing up our cabin east of troutdale and north of Independence. A life long dream of mine.

Now somebody buy this rifle.

It's a wonderful gun and it's too bad that at that price only an advanced collector would buy it. Chances are it will never see the woods again.

Now why do I say that ? An 85% F in 308 can be bought for around $600. Add $225 for a JES 3 groove rebore to 358 and for < $900 you have a hunting 358.
Will never be collectors item, but will kill whatever just as dead.

Love my 99% 99R 300 but it gets hunted as that's what it was made for.
