Hi all, I've got two elk points now which would allow me to muzzleload for elk in many units in Colorado.
I've got a place to stay before and after the hunt in Steamboat with family so I am looking at a place around there to hunt. Units 5, 214, 14,131, 15 are the ones I am looking at.
That being said, does anyone have experience or suggestions on these units. 14 is the closest with what seems like the most public access so I am leaning towards 14 at this particular moment.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

I hunted units 5 and 11 many years ago and 22 recently.
Can't offer any knowledge on comparisons of areas but it did seem like a great part of the state for a muzzleloader hunt.

My recollection was that there were some areas of black timber that were so thick and with so much deadfall that one might just as well use open sights because you couldn't see far. My group took a bull from one of those thick spots and we were having to hoist the quarters over deadfall tree trunks 4' high in places.

If you can get into the Walton Creek drainage just where it starts to drop off into the valley you will find elk in 14. Be ready to pack it out.
