Took Cookie south this AM and spotted some flying into the lek in the morning sky. About 5 roosters and 3 hens. Again, I got stuck just driving the truck, as Cookie has taken my camera away from me. Hen

Excellent photos... Yesterday I saw a bunch, but had left my camera in another truck.. this am, the local photographer headed up the hill before me, so I continued with the coyote hunt...

Uh oh, photo restriction! Cookie did good on the birds though.
Great photography is not about being in the right place at the right time, it is about putting yourself in the right place at the right time.

Cookie get's some really nice photo's! That first one is stunning!!!
Ya know how that might really look great? Print on slate. I dropped one of one of my dog's off in Madras today to print on slate. Saw some they had there last Friday, awesome! Maybe spendy. I ordered a 6x8 today, $20! Got two more I'm gonna have done, maybe next month.

Thanks for the comments. Even here locally, it's amazing how many folks don't even know what these birds are. USF&W is looking at a potential listing this year, as populations are tanking across the west. Oregon still has a short and restricted season on sage grouse, but I don't know if any other states allow hunting. If they get a T&E listing range wide, we are going to see some radical changes in the management of our public lands.
If one has some birds around, do all one can to take care of them.
We seem to have lost the ability here to hit the "reply" button and view a Photobucket resolution image. On my system one can hit the "Ctrl" and plus (+) or minus (-) keys to zoom into or out of ones screen respectively, and images will often appear to come to life at one resolution or another. Have a good one,

Used to hunt that season, for the scenery and excuse to get outside much more than for the birds. It was a fun season, although a bit of a drive for a wet side resident.
They are certainly cool birds, and those are great pictures.

Yes, a drive from Anchorage to the nearest sage grouse would be quite time consuming. Have a good one,
