I prefer Bridgestones if one wants sticky. And on my big Harleys and BMWs that is the only brand I liked.

They do wear, but that is what you want. grin

What's the status of the ammo box luggage / artillery shell casing header mods ?

...is that still on the table ?

Thanks, do you consider them to be pretty good in the traction department? Fairly 'sticky'?

Yes, they're plenty sticky for my use which is a mix of dirt and paved roads with a little off road mixed in. The 244's seem to be a decent compromise between a knobby and a street tire for a dual sport type of bike...

You remembered that. I am honored. Yes, that is still the plan. Artillery shell as the tailpipe and a smaller one for the turbocharger air intake, facing forward.

The geometery may now work out for one or both, but we are hoping. Found a place that was selling a 2 pack of 75mm shells for $19.95. I was pleased to find them so easily and cheaply.

Tigershark grinning teeth graphics on the tank that match my Bell helmet perfectly.

This bike may not be everyone's cup 'o tea, but I am liking how it will shape up when all done.

Yes, soft rubber at the tread and grab point is what is called for. Thanks for the intel I will look into those more.

Now THAT is a good and strong reccomendation. The Metzlers must have a good, stiff sidewal. I will have to reconsider them. Thanks.

You are quite right here, and not wanting to skimp (being a little afraid of the price point on these, is why I asked here.

The reviews were good, and the folks I talked to at the tire sales outlets thought they were actually a good tire BUT, I wanted some input from folks here about them.

I SO do not want to have a flat on a motorcycle, ever, if such can be avoided.

Leaning more toward Metzler and Bridgestone for now. I will look at Bike Bandit and JP Cycles to see what they have in my sizes.

If your builder / tuner has you convinced that he can make this lash up flow as well, or have the tunability of a real turbo intake and exhaust tract ( let's say Kerkers), .....he's simply BSing, and blowing smoke up your wazoo.

You're stuck between wanting a show stopping "Theme Bike", and having a real race bike.

Gotta' say that I'd venture that once this monstrosity is all spooled up, you'll have neither.

Single exhaust runs straight out of the turbo, just a short piece of tailpipe which will be the artillery shell. Intake is the S&S intake that came with the carb we are using. Turbo air flow into the carb is a custom bent piece of steel tubing.

Not wanting the best race bike here, my drag racing is only the local fun track and I run in the 'sportsman' class which has a lot of street legal stuff running in it.

If I don't like how it looks when done, or don't like having as much power as the turbo gives, no big deal to switch back to the drag pipes I had before and re dyno'ed.

I do not have the money or the desire to have the fastest ride there. Just a fun looking and fun to ride motorcycle that is different.

Again, my tastes may not be everyone or even anyone else's taste. And again, easy to change back.

Back on the topic of the tires.

Leaning toward Bridgestone.

But someone said that Korean tires were cheap junk. I don't think this is neccesarily the case. I have had a couple sets of Hankook mud and snow tires and they were terrific. Great grab and good wear life.

My brother and 3 friends have run shinkos. I don't know which particular tread but probably 30,000 miles total between them. 4 bikes total. All sport bikes, 120-150 h.p. and no complaints. Seem to hold up the same as my dual compound Michelins on my FZ1.

It's still only a 1200 with some mods that are hardly in the "race bike realm".Your 1/4 mile expectations are overly optimistic and I gave you a simple streetable combination to put you in the nines @ 130+ but you continue to head off into left field.

You don't have to change the whole back end to go to a wider rear tire route unless it's a much larger tire.

Consider switching to a rear chain with offset sprockets and an outboard bearing supprt.

Mark if youre given the blessing of a donated kidney, is it prudent to continue to persue a dangerous and reckless endeavor such as racing motorcycles?

I trust that you don't take this the wrong way, I am being sincere.

I have already been "pre-advised" by my specialist of such activities, namely regarding contact type sports, and the usual dare-devil type crap. Last thing I would think you'd want is exposure to a crushing fall, burns or road rash being on anti-rejection meds notwithstanding.

Just sayin

Frankly, if you are just riding in a straight line, it doesn't matter that much. If you were smoking the rear tire after launch, maybe it might matter a little, but good grief. Unless you routinely grind your undercarriage or knee pads, just about anything round and black will work.
I remember this one hardtail. Guy had a clapped out, rock hard, grossly cupped Goodyear on the 21 inch springer front, no front brake, and a RACE, not sport, compound Metzeler on the back (ground square, flat and bald of course).
Of course, that was when I was running ME33 race compound up front and ME99 sport rear to balance the wear and induce a little oversteer on exit....
Just out of annoyance (not visible), I asked him, why the Metz?
"For traction off the line, man."
"Really good, huh?"
"Eleven second quarter, man."
This was a Knucklehead with the chain hanging like the Golden Gate cables.
"Wow, thanks! Have a good ride!"

Well, unless it was totally worked over I'd guess at least 50% of that Harley was outsourced.......
