just depends on the model your comparing it to. be more specific and specify which SHV scope your interested in and which NXS model your wanting.

SVH 5-20x56 vs NXS 5-22x50. For instance.
I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.

The NXS has a better zero stop feature. The SHV has a zero set which basically bottoms out and jambs against the bottom of them turret. The NXS has alot more reticle choices. The SHV is a 56mm which IMO is more objective size than you need. If your doing alot of dialing or dialing to a long distance the NXS has 20 MOA in a turn and is better suited to frequent dial ups. The negatives are you have an exposed windage turret on the NXS, which I don't like. I think the glass is pretty comparable with the 56mm your probably going to close the brightness gap to a 50 mm NXS. I think these scopes are probably closer to each other than most care to admit. I would love to know exactly what the internal differences are. I think nightforce is careful to protect the markup on the NXS scope, which means offering the SHV to a mostly DIFFERENT market at a lesser prices doesn't hurt their branding and market share with the NXS. either way I am trying to use nothing but NF on the rifles I shoot most frequent.

Nothing like focusing on that which matters the least....
The SHVs are solid scopes. They hold zero well, they track correctly... overall solid HUNTINGTON scopes. The NXSs are bombproof. By hey are made to take abuse that would break most parts on a rifle. That's the difference.

Anyone know if they share the same erectors or glass?
At close to a grand difference - $1750 for NXS 2.5-10x42mm vs. $873.00 SVH 3-10x42mm (Optics Planet pricing) there has to be some pretty significant differences.
Anyone know what they are?

both those scopes can be had cheaper. short of someone taking one apart or asking nightfoce that would be the only way to know.

Seems like a good scope, but guess I'll wait and let a few of them get out there before I dive in.

I called and asked the same thing. The SHV is not built to the mil standard the NSX is. The turrets are also not designed for cranking on constantly. The tech on the phone indicated they will track, but if you plan on dialing A LOT, you should go with the NXS.
The glass was the same he said.

I ended up buying an SHV 3-10x42 with the MOAR reticle & it's been good in all respects, so far. Tracks well in shorts tests.
The reticle is OK for my intended purposes but is poor in low light & on dark targets............I wish it were illuminated.
Only real "complaint" so far, bought it in June.

Has anyone used the 3-10 SHV with non-illuminated IHR in a hunting situation?

MM Agreed. That's the main reason I don't have one of the 3-10. The others are too big, but I really want Illum and I don't know if they'll offer it on the 3-10.
