Anybody shooting the .338 Norma Magnum? Reload for it?
Quite a while back I picked up some new Lapua brass for the .423 Dakota thinking about building a 400 but now I see that the .338 Norma Magnum is getting kind of popular and now that Norma has had it C.I.P rated dies, ammo, and brass are becoming available.
Seems like this .423 brass should form right down into this .338 Norma Mag. pretty easily, and maybe would be a better build.
Anybody do this yet?
Phil

Ghost if I lived in Alaska the 358NM would be my main hunting rifle. A very overlooked cartridge for moose, elk, and big bears. powdr

338 Norma Magnum; Might be down the line, but dies are already available and I believe the 423 Dakota brass would easily neck down to the 338 NM. A 358 could be easily done but would require custom dies not available, as the 423 Dakota brass has the same .585 base as the 416 Rigby and 338 Lapua. Or for that matter any cartridge within reason slightly up or down from .423... 423 Dakota case dimensions aren't far off that of the 358 NM though and would be cheaper to build. Phil

I shoot it. I dig it. Robert Snyder built mine. My blueprint: Reminton 700 LA PTG 1-piece bolt and bottom meta Timney trigger ABS/Proof Benchmark Barrel Sendero contour, 9.3 twist, 26" plus Proof brake McM A1-3 stock Scoped as you see it here with a Zeiss FL 4-16x50, this rig weighs 10lb, 5oz, sans the bipod. She's "snappy" when you touch her off. She pushes 250 grain Berger Elite Hunters 2900 fps into about .3 MOA.

Phil No. I suspect most guys that want something powerful get .338 Winchester or .375H&H magnums. Frankly after seeing old .35 Newton nothing new they come out with surprises or impresses me.

Have a 358 Winchester built on a M70 featherweight, a 358 Norma Mag built on a 98, a 358 STA built on a M70 Classic Stainless, and a 358 PLP waiting to be built. Was planing on a 40 until I read up on this 338 Norma Mag being C.I.P certified by Norma, and dies being readily available. Funny what I should be doing is trying something smaller, smallest right now being a 243 Kimber.

Wished I'd have picked up more of that brass when I had the chance, got 400 pieces, figure that's enough for one or two good builds.
