According to my EXCEL loose barrel inventory file, I have a 10/22-22 stainless take-off barrel with sights somewhere in the storage unit. It is a new take-off, replaced with a 24" fluted stainless unit from Green Mountain. PM me if you're interested and I'll look for it this coming week.

More than you're looking for but if you want a ready made solution you can buy a new 10/22 with a 22" barrel and open sights plus a checkered stock with recoil pad, both blued and stainless, for about $260-280 right now. www.budsgunshop.com has them, also on gunbroker.com - search for ruger 1149 and ruger 1150.

I bought one years ago with a wood stock and 22" stainless barrel - it is a handy gun I use often but mine is scoped. Walmart was selling them exclusively and I was in Arizona and went to buy it when the clerk informed me he couldn't sell to me because I lived in California. I had missed the sneaky law passage that year that had made us 2nd class gun buying citizens.
To be able to buy it I had to go to gunbroker.com since Walmart doesn't sell guns in CA.
I really like the way it points and shoot vs. the carbine length gun.

AFAIK the "Walmart Specials" were only offered in stainless. I remember them coming out several years ago. I don't know if those were really a Lipsey's distributor special or maybe Lipsey's took over that design later on. The last batch was made sometime around 2012 or 2013 and it looks like Ruger just made up another batch of stainless and blued models for Lipsey's since you didn't see them anywhere or the on-line sites all showed them as "out of stock", now within the last three weeks I've seen a half dozen on gunbroker and Bud's shows them in stock again.
I've been on this open sight kick for a while now so got one for the longer sight radius. Also I like the looks of the longer barrel and the sporter style stock even if it is birch and not walnut.

I bought one from Clark. It is a tack driver.

I bought a 24" stainless sporter weight barrel from Montana Rifleman for my 10/22. Shoots into 1/2 inch at 50 yards. I wouldn't trade it for any other 22 if I couldn't build another just like it.
Course I think I read where Remington is moving Montana Rifleman to Alabama. I haven't figured out if the company is just getting closer to Georgia or going away completely...
