Hey guys. I have an older Ben Pearson recurve that I was thinking about playing with. The markings are no:3360 52" 40#. I'm assuming that it's a 40 lb draw weight (at 30" draw length) and 52" is the bow length. What I am wondering is what string length to get since it doesn't have one. Also, what arrows would be recommended for it? Can I use this bow for shooting whitetail? Any accessories that I should get? Thanks.

Draw length is 28 inches.
If I remember, that bow has a sharp recurve.
A string which fits loosely over the knocks in a straight line across the front (not stringing it) should be about right. If you can't find one exactly, go up to the next size.

If there is not archery shop near you, call Three Rivers Archery or Jeffery Archery. They will have lots of strings and a chart matching them to old bows.

Get s string for a 52" bow. That's what the masuremnt is on there for, the strings are made for AMO standards and will be the proper length.

Must be a short bow....all AMO poundage measurments for recurves are at 28", and if you draw it 30" it may pinch your fingers. But most compound shooters find their draw goes down at least 2" and sometimes 3" with a recurve.

It's a little light for whitetails, but would proably work if it's legal in yoru state. It is in mine, but many states have a 45# limit. Aluminum would work well , probably 2016s or even smaller.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking that I will stick with my compound for the time being and use this for fun. I would like to get proficient at shooting instinctively, but I've barely had time to practice this year with my compound let alone a whole new way of shooting. 40# is legal here in Alberta, I'm just not sure if it is that great. I might use it for shooting gophers to practice with.

40 lb draw will kill deer all day long at 30 yards, and shoot the right aluminum arrow pretty fast. You might get better groups if you refletch with feathers.
