I have owned and carried several Glocks for many years and was quite happy with them. They were never finicky about ammo and fired everytme I pulled the trigger. I have several friends that have S&W M&Ps that raved about them so I decided to give one a try. So far I have been very impressed. I have a full size .357 Sig and an extra .40 barrel and it has proven to be very accurate. The grip feels better in my hand than the Glock also. If it proves as reliable I will be a happy camper.

Im in the same boat now, I plan on making a switch to a 9mm M&P to try to alleviate some of the beating on my elbows. Too many years of hot .40 in G22s has led put me to the point that shooting pistols is not fun due to the pain. I was deep in glocks simply because when I was in California I already had standard cap mags, now that I am in the land of the free I will give the M&P a spin. The fact that Smith is giving away an extra 3 mags with each purchase is not hurting either, 5 mags is a good start.

Also CDNN has what they call "used" S&W factory 15 round .40/.357 mags for $16.00. I ordered some and if they were ever put in a gun I couldn't tell it.

In the 40 cal subcompact pistols, I would take an M&P Compact over a Glock 27 hands down. I've shot them both and the M&PC has a much better grip and is softer-shooting to boot.

I prefer Glocks over the M&P. The trigger on the MP is about the only thing I like better? Give me a model 10, 686, or 629.

I've a number of Glocks in 40 and 10, and an M&P40 full size. I have to say the M&P feels fantastic in the hand. If they made it in 10mm, I'd be elated.

For me, the M&P feels better in the hand when I'm just holding it, but the gun seems to recoil harder due to the narrower backstrap, compared to a squared off Glock.

It's the M&P for me. Their ergonomics are way better to my hand. I have a 40 Full Size (plus an aftermarket 9mm Storm Lake Barrel in 9mm) and a 45 Full Size FDE. I got both of mine with the thumb safety. I know some despise the safety, but after years of 1911's it just feels normal to me. Plus I like the fact I can cycle the slide or chamber a round with the safety engaged.

Mark do you ride the safety like a 1911 or swipe it and lock the thumb down after taking it off?
I went with a USP about 1995 to try to duplicate a 1911 and it just did not work trying to ride the safety.

Personally, I swipe it and then lock my thump down. I fell like I can control the recoil better that way and get back on target faster. Others my have a different point of view on it though.
Frankly I never cared for riding the safety on the my 1911's either. But that's me. Some folks swear by that method.

I put on some Talon Grips with the rubber texture. It was easy to install and really improves the gri . Not too bad for $18.00

M&P is heavier and the triggers I have felt have never been as good as glock. however I think I may prefer the shield over the glock 43 though
