A pair of 06's will do...grin
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

If a guy wants to fine tune his pre 64 M70 herd, just buy 3 270's and a 375H&H. I did a little tuning today..... Found a couple of real gems.

When I met my wife's uncle by marriage in 1979, I knew he was a rancher, and dressed the part. I told him I thought he would own a Winchester 70, because he looked like the ads in American Rifleman.
We visited his ranch in Volborg MT in 1984, and it turns out he has over 100 Winchester M70s. The safe looks like a semi trailer. He said he would go to the show at Vegas, but never saw anything as good as what he already had.
He loaned me a beat up scoped 243 M70 with bi-pod, a motorcycle, a truck, and introduced me to reloading and shooting prairie dogs. We also shot a 220 Swift M70 and a Rem700 17Rem. I liked the 243 best.
That was a case of enjoying visiting the wife's relatives more than she did.

Yeah, I like a pre-'64 model 70 story with a happy ending.
