Ok I'm no internet guru but I have looked at Brownells, Numrich and Weisners for a front sight hood (I can find that at Numrich)and a rear sight for a 1956 M70 FWT or the blank insert. I found one but it's aluminum and hat just not gong to cut it. I would prefer the blank as I'll scope the gun anyway and really could us 3 of them.
Anybody have these they would be willing to sell or have an idea of a source?

I don't know the correct sight for it but would encourage you to put a fold down one in the slot. Many years ago I took my late fathers standard pre-64 M70 .270 on a fly-in caribou hunt and the scope (Weaver) took a crap at the most inopportune time after a couple days in the rain. My father had removed the rear sight when he scoped it and at that moment I sure wish he hadn't have. I lost a chance at a great bull and had to finish the hunt sharing my buddies rifle.

There are always used steel Lyman 16A or B folding rear sights on eBay and usually reasonably priced. Galazans sells repro hoods, close but not exact as they have only one scallop instead of both front and rear. For $5.00 they are great: http://www.csmcspecials.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=1

GSP, Midway has the Lyman 16A, which is the correct factory supplied sight for A '56 FWT.in steel for $14.95. I can't link but if you will google "lyman 16A" the Midway listing is up top. John

GSP, The closest any of my scopes are to the folding rear is 2" behind it. That is an Elite 4200. On the others it is between 2 1/2" and 3". Like tmitch said, a lot of insurance for not any hassles. John

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I can get the rear sight from Midway a Lyman 16A so that's not a problem but finding the hood is. I have NEVER been on E-Bay and really don't want to go there. I hate these damn computers and am still trying to figure out the picture thing here so my skills are VERY limited.
I'd like to find the blanks as well. The rear sight (I think it's a 22G on the 300 Savage and 22 Hornet wouldn't allow for a scope using medium rings and the high rings are just to high. I hade to take the rear sight off and would like to fill in the slot.

GSP, Brownells has the Galazan hood for $5.99. Homestead Gun Parts has what is probably the same one for $10 or so. I've got one of them on one of my fwt. .308s and you really have to look to notice the difference. At 6 bucks I'd get one and then if it doesn't suit you, you could keep looking. John

Yes 22G rear sights cause problems with scope use. Used steel blanks are $20 at least and usually much more, especially those marked Lyman, Redfield, or Marbles.
Brownells list this as a steel sight filler @ 579-087-100WB

Midway USA had the Lyman sight (thanks again John) and the Marbles blanks for the 300 Savage and the Hornet. Numrich has a hood for $7.50. I was hoping to get all at the same location but you gotta do what you gotta do. Either way at the end of the day it will be right again.
