And I don't. Have only fired M16's on the job, no other black rifle.
Have the wants for one in 223, fast twist. Sell me on a brand/style, etc. Thinking something flat top is also the way I want to go. This will be a shooting/target/critter gun.
Thanks.

Buy a RRA flat top with SS Wilson tube in 8 twist. It'll shoot dang near anything and the tube is better than the run of the mill tube. Not a Krieger but....
Get the 2 stage match trigger. Way better than the stock trigger. OR replace stock trigger with a JARD. Dependig. IF you go 2 stage and its not clean after 500 rounds, send it to WOP and for 30-40 bucks it'll come back GOOD.
AND if you have a local smithy around..... 223 AI is real easy to come by then....
Floated upper half- if weight is an issue, look to synthetic front float tube. Carbon Fiber is good, but snags all over my wool gloves--nothing big, but its there...but I still use fiber tubes. Barrel length-- your call, short and handy?16 though a mid weight 20 inch tube gives more speed and isn't that cumbersome, or a 26 inch tube like on my yote upper for a bit more speed again....
In fact if cost is an issue, PM me.
Jeff

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

Steelhead, build it yourself and you can safe a lot of money.
Any forged lower by DPMS, Stag, Rock River is a good building block.
Most other parts are built to milspec and can be interchanged between brands.

RRA has done good by me... I've built my own, but I don't know if I'd invest in all the tools/blocks for that if you aren't already addicted <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
RRA has some new 'Coyote' or 'Predator' models to compete w/ Bushmaster's 'Varminter' or 'Predator' models... either company would probably do you right. I would suggest buying just the lower half from your dealer, and ordering the upper you want to your door... often significant savings that way.

Thanks all. I'm liking the Predator version from both RRA and Bushmaster. I know I can order a Predator for a bit under $900, will see what RRA will do.

As a longtime competitor and having seen many brands of rifles over the years, my sole input is that R would be a better value than B any day on the long haul average, and if dealing with a lower including match trigger, regardless of comments of some who think the B trigger is great-- well its a huge step past the stock trigger but not close to the R trigger.

Steelhead, I have to warn you, don't get your first because they are addictive. I own 3 of them now. One is a fun gun for burning up ammo, the other two wear scopes and shoot very accurate. Kind of bums you out because especially for coyote hunting, it kind of makes your other varminters seem inferior.
You could build a varminter similar to the Bushy etc for around $700, maybe less.

I've had an RRA Varmint with the 2 stage trigger and 24" heavy Wilson barrel for about 4-5 years. Probably a couple thousand various factory and surplus rounds through it and ZERO malfunctions of any kind.
I usually just plink at the range but if I were to carry it or hunt very much, I'd go with a 20" barrel to make it a little easier to shoot offhand, yet still be pretty quiet. When you get in the 16" range you get ((((LOUD))))....

Shouldn't be a problem, I don't have an addictive personality. If you don't count bolt actions, fly rods, knives, shotguns, oh hell, never mind...
