You want to venture a guess on how many of the truck drives could not speak or read English. Our WHP used to be able to put them out of service for not being able to speak English but no more. Can only cite them for it. Very good friend of mine is a LT on the WHP. Even saw an interpreter in the Drivers Services helping a guy get his license...WTF if you can't read the test how can you read signs. That portion of I-80 has all kinds of VMS signs to war of conditions ahead. No reason for any of that too happen other than pure stupidity.
Nothing stops mexican truckers, if the truck will run.
Or Ukrainians...
Ooodles of East Indians hopped up on poppyseed tea as well.
If it is they were still driving to fast for the conditions.\
Sad for the folks who got hurt but those truckers that hauled straight into the mess should not be allowed to drive.
i80 is a terror in bad weather. Wind so strong it'll blow you right off the road if it's slick..this is probably the 7-8th time I've been shut down on it.

Thank you, that is the nicest thing you have ever said about me.
I drove a lot of snow and ice grossing a lot more than anything I saw go by in that video. I have driven mountain passes and back roads without see a black road for three days at a time.
In my professional opinion those guys were all driving way over the conditions. Some of it was most likely due to the uphill grade and the need to maintain traction. They would have been a lot better off stopping and hanging iron. Cover six drives and two drags and take it easy and you get home.
There are a lot of reasons truckers do not due what I suggested. fifteen minutes late to a Walmart distribution centre can cost you a whole day waiting without pay. Just In Time does not give drivers any slack for weather.
I on the other hand would stop and sleep until it passed. Yes, there were times when I did not deliver on time but I never ended up in a ditch, never had to be towed, never had an accident of any kind, never had a moving violation, and most important of all never killed anybody.
Those who have driven will understand, those who have not will call truck drivers

2015 and they haven't figured out which way to hold a phone when making a video.
That was like wide screen for viewers who were laying down on their sides.

Yeah - Harriman Road you are gaining in elevation so likely was a grade. Nothing like the ride down Telephone Canyon to Laramie, but it's Wyoming. There are lots of treacherous spots on I-80. The Sisters between Evanston and Green River, Arlington with the high winds, And the summit between Laramie and Cheyenne.

I'm not a trucker, and I don't know how bad the visibility really was compared to what I could see in that video, but it sure looked like those trucks were going way too fast for the conditions. Scott F, who is a very experienced driver summed it up pretty good I thought-chain up, slow down, or better yet, sleep through it and live to drive another day.
I'm stuck in rock springs. They're saying 80 "might" open back up Sunday.guess I'll detour south to I70 tomorrow
Better than getting hung up in Rawlins. Had to overnight in that armpit of a town many a night because of closed roads to the east around Elk Mountain.
It's obvious, but them fellas were driving waaay too fast for the road conditions, they shoulda known that. Too bad so many others have to pay for their screwups.
Whats the westbound situation? I had a Fedex ground shipment leave Cheyenne Thurs evening and it hasn't reached Salt Lake yet according to the tracking. Its less than 500 miles.
