A few weeks ago I read a post were some said you could take 7mm Mag. brass and neck it down to 257Wby. I tried it and it works great. I was wondering it anyone had any idea on what I would use to make 240Wby brass???

Thanks for your help!!

REDMAN

While the 7mm Mag and 257 Wby share the attributes of same rim size and headspacing from the belt, the problem with the 240 Wby is that it is essentially a belted 30-06 case (.473 Rim) and headspaced from the belt. If you do not own a 240 Wby, I would be more inclined to build a 6mm-06 with 26-28 inch barrel. It will essentially duplicate the 240 Wby and in the interim probably be more accurate with headspacing coming from the shoulder.

The 240 is a bastard case. I too would go 6-'06,6-06AI or 6-284 instead of Roy's 6mm. Brass availability the major reason.............

240 brass can be made by swagging a belt on to 30/06 cases.Jim Carmichael did it with military match brass.

Personaly,I'd just shell out the $$ and buy some Weatherby brass and forget about it.A 240 is more of a big game rifle than a varmint gun,and you won't be shooting it enough to wear out a large amount of brass.

WB.

You can also have the barrel set back .125, just enough to remove the belt and rechamber it for a 6-06. The belt screws everything up on that case. Flinch

WheelchairBandit,

I have heard of these dies for converting .30/06 to .240 Wby before but have been unable to find a source. Do you know who makes them?

Cases for the .240 Wby or any wildcat based on the case made from .30/06 cases would have increased powder capacity as an additional benefit. The .240 Wby has very thick case walls at the web of .034-.036 versus .029 for even the .300 Win.M, also a stout case. I came across this and the limits it imposes on capacity in developing my .416 TAS.

Fireplug
