I walked into a college bar a few years back to see a local take on several of Elon's upper crust baseball team players with a ball peen in each hand. They had beat him up for supposedly looking at a girl and he then went out to his truck and came back to settle. He did a few years time, but they were all howling by the time the police arrived.

Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
Unconventional item of defense is whatever is at hand, however I prefer conventional, 1911 OM 38 Super.

I tend to try to use my brain, first and foremost. Yep. Many times, self defense is just walking away. Discernment and proportional response go a long way.
Every day on this side of the ground is a win.

...custom made cocobolo nunchucks... Nothing else will suffice. I've read they work on dogs as well.
A friend and I got into a scrap with 3 guys about 22 years ago at a local town park. Police pulled in while we were in the middle of it, broke things up, and made us sit and watch while they searched the cars. The other group had 2 billy clubs, a baseball bat, and a hammer in their back seat. My buddy had a baseball bat and a glove in his trunk. Police took all of their stuff but let my buddy keep his bat because he had a glove with it.

If you are going to carry something that won't be considered a weapon behind the seat nothing beat a jack handle or tire wrench. Just normal items in a auto and will work fine as a weapon if need. You will still go to jail if you use them for that purpose.
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Back when I was shark fishing a lot, I had a 12 gauge "bang stick". Often thought it could be used to "repel boarders" in a home invasion type situation. Of course, you'd have to get to within say 4 - 5 feet of the "target", but after seeing what a load of #6 shot a VERY close range did ti a big fish, I suspect punching an attacker in the chest with it would have ended a threat. Now, if you gaffed him first, probably wouldn't be "sporting".

I've been carrying a firearm every day since I turned 21 (7 years ago). The biggest thing it has taught me is to avoid situations where I might have to use it. My favorite unconventional item of defense is situational awareness and avoidance of situations where I might have to defend myself.

Met a receptionist once who kept a can of that "shoots a 20 foot stream" wasp spray on the cabinet beside her for unconventional defense.
A face full of that would admittedly make me want to leave.

Pine tree I don't know why more don't use the wasp spray? It will burn the eyes, face ,take your breath away and you can shoot it about 10 feet. Not like bear spray, that would ruin your car if the wind blew it back in.

A surefire type flashlight will give you the time needed to get lost or land a few blows on anyone with eyesight.
My cousin, a 6'5" 300lb bouncer was telling me how bad he was and I told him I could slap him 5 times before he knew what happened and tell him right before it happens. He laughed. I plowed him in the face with a 3batt 123cr light and slapped him. He bought it off me right after. He couldn't see anything but the edges of his vision.
Great tool.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.
