Hi first time posting here I have been reading for quite some time but a little intimidated by the knowledge on here. Any way I have a Remington 40xbr .222 Remington that I bought when I was about 18 years old while working in my grandparents gun shop, and it has been sitting in the safe for about ten years not getting any use. It is in what I would say 90 to 95 percent with a fixed 10 power unertl scope on it in the unertl mount. I bought it from a fellow whose father passed away and he didn’t want any of his guns after the death and I thought I would use it a lot more then I have but only shot about 50 rounds out of it. I was looking for a little history on it and seeing how much it was worth and trying to decide if I want to keep it and figured you fellows could point me in the right direction.

I wouldn't trust any of these bastids... including me. smile Buy or consult a book on gun values. Your serial #s will tell you when it was manufactured.

Welcome to the Fire. You will probably be sorry.... smile

Welcome to the "Fire" Webbedfeet, you can trust the guys here to give you a pretty fair value but not without a fair bit of good natured jabbin'.

Enjoy.

Oh yeah......GFY.

Welcome.

Best first initial advice I'll give is DO NOT separate the rifle and scope, mounts, regardless of WHAT is offered for them, individually.

Set a spell, relax, and stand by to be somewhat SURPRISED at the value of the artifact you're asking about.

Let's here some coherent details, ....you've worked in a gun shop, and know how to write details,....No ?

Help ?

Cautiously, at best.

This REEKS of some sorta' scam, or spoof.

Thanks for the quick reply's and the terms of endearment where im from that means you liked. I don't know why it doesn't smell rite or a scam. I am just curious about the rifle. And the time worked in the gun shop was afternoons after high school, more of a charity from my grand parents helping me out. Now I wish I would have taken advantage of when I could have. I am working on loading up pictures now.

Thanks I have been all over the internet looking at auction sites and other forums looking at some information and history on it. This site seems to have to most knowledge base on it and was hoping some one here may know a thing or two about it. I have see prices all over the place from 1500$ to A nib at 5000$ obviously mine is not nib and some of the higher prices guns are not going to sell.I do not have any one local that I feel i can have take a look at it and give me a fair value. Most of the prices were for gun only. Some of the sites say it is some what of a rare gun now I checked the serial number and it appears it was made in 1974.I am not even sure if I want to sell it but do not have much use for it.
