Without the hardware kit. :-(

They are going to send one, which should only take a day or two 'cause it ain't all that far from Mitchell to Omaha, but definitely a PITA.

Nice looking and feeling stock, a Heritage style in Forest Camo laminate and the fleur de lis pattern "checkering". Can't wait to get the hardware kit, get the 223 bedded, and get out to the range.

Interested on how you like the rifle with the extra weight of the new stock.

I tried a Prairie Hunter on a 22 LR American, and a Pro Varmint on an American .17HMR. Sold both stocks due to the weight.

I have a .308 Compact that I would like to try with a Laminate stock, just not sure if the extra weights worth it.

Boyds make an excellent stock , however find most are too bulky, guess I could always hollow out the butt and forend and take the belt sander to the exterior.

As well they are close to 180.00 Canadian shipped .

The Heritage weighs 39 ounces without the hardware, but I think that the feel and balance will be improved and make the whole package more user friendly. The Ruger factory synthetic stock weighs 23.4 ounces, so about a pound difference in weight. The RAR-P is a little muzzle-heavy in its stock condition, maybe the larger/heavier rear of the Boyds stock will help shift its balance point back closer to neutral.

This is my first Heritage, but probably not my last. I have a Boyds Rimfire Hunters on several Marlin and Savage 17HM2s, 17HMRs, 22LRs, and 22Mags. I also have a few Prairie Hunters on Marlin X guns, Mausers, Remington 700s, and Weatherby Vanguard2s. I have Tacticool on a Marlin 917, but don't care for it. I guess that I am neither tactical or cool enough to love that stock design.

This stock was $198.59 with the extra costs of laminated wood, "checkering", and shipping.

As a matter of fact, I do!

Boyds finally sent me the accessory kit that should have been in the box with the stock, after two weeks and two promises, and I bedded the recoil lugs into the stock yesterday. I'm going to let the Acragel cure another day or two, easy to do since it is raining here and the range road is muddy. I installed a Weaver V16 in Boyds Maxima fixed rings, with the total assembled weight coming in at 9 pounds 2.5 ounces. It is still a little muzzle-heavy, but it balances better than it did before. If it shoots as good as it looks and feels, I'm likely to buy these stocks for both my RAR-Ps in 204 and 6.5 Creedmoor.

The only thing that I needed to do, other than bed the recoil lugs, was to sand a couple 1/1000ths off the front of the magazine latch catch.

My concern about the RAR-Ps is that they could easily become the basis for a "stone soup" build. An economy build that eventually gets to be more expensive than you'd ever intended, 'cause when you do it a little at a time the additional costs doesn't seem like so much, at least until you add them up.

$400 for the base RAR-P
$200 for the Boyds stock
$125 for a Timney trigger

As with many things, YMMV.

EDIT: My faux 700 LVSF 223 in a McMillan McM Hunter with the same scope and rings weighs 8 pounds 10.5 ounces, so a half pound less than the RAR-P.

Your total adds up to a New Hawkeye Predator, or maybe even a (gulp!) Tikka.

But then, this one is all yours, for better or worse.

Pics ASAP please.

What, no pics?

Coyote Hunter - NRA Patriot Life, NRA Whittington Center Life, GOA, DAD - and I VOTE!

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

The Timney was a pleasant surprise as I was expecting a minimum of 1.5lbs, per advertised spec. The one I put in my 223 goes much lower and is a REALLY nice trigger.

I guess we could look at new triggers and plywood stocks being lipstick on a pig... or you could think of it like this... the entry price for a RAR is low enough where you can add these items and still keep the price low, IF you want.

I don't think that "lipstick on a pig" is fair to the RAR, as it isn't a pig to begin with. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by how well the RAR-P in 204 shoots Hornady, Fiocchi, and Winchester/Olin factory ammo. I am hopeful that if the 223 and 6.5 Creed don't quite equal the 204's performance, they will come close. If they are close, maybe there will be a 22-250 and/or a 243 coming home with me somewhere down the road. Not place in the inn for a short barrel bolt action 308.

Of course, I could be wrong and the RARs might be pigs in serious need of a Mary Kay makeover.

Except for the first one I looked at, which had a noisy magazine, I kind of like them. The last couple I've seen were pretty impressive. Basically, you get a whole new gun to play with for the price of a barrel ( not installed! ) for another rifle. Hard to argue with the math.

I may get a .223 after the current crop of new arrivals is settled in, although the AR 556 is also a great deal and I've yet to play the Black Rifle game.

I'm still waiting on my order for the Cotis/SAS mag extensions! The one in my pic was an at-home hack job. It works, but isn't as nice as yours Cotis.
