Hello all
I have a 1999 F-150 and the right front brake stays clamped on long after I let off the brake. I replaced the brake caliper and put on some new pads but it still happens. What the heck is going on? None of my other brakes do this.

Did you ensure that the caliper could move freely in it's mount? Slides clean and greases?

Or, it wouldn't be the first time a new or rebuilt part wasn't working properly.

In rare instances, a partial constriction or blockage in a hose or line may be causing the caliper to bleed back off slowly after applying the brakes.

My first inclination would be a defective rebuilt (?) caliper.

I doubt that both the old and new calipers were bad. I would also suspect the brake hose.

There is also some spring steel clips that you can get that help release the tension on the pads, check with Rock Auto.

I have to go with the rubber brake line, seen it quit a few times. They get an internal crack that makes a flap that acts like a check valve. Frustrates a lot of mechanics as few seem to think about the rubber line, seen em change out everything but and it still happens.

Had that happen too, on exterior inspection the hose looked fine, nice and firm. Changed everything below it, next was the complicated and expensive anti-lock system so I replaced the hose just in case. Darned if it hadn't degraded internally and worked like a leaky check valve - intermittently of course.

Hose would be my guess because it happened to me on my 92.

It took driving 2 miles for the caliper and brake pad to catch on fire.
New hose and all of the heated up parts did the trick.
Might try to bleed a lot of fluid out that side when done,to make sure no junk got pushed back in the system.

Crack the bleeder if the piston retracts it's the hose.

That will release the pressure, but will not retract the piston.

For all of you who said it was the hose, you are correct. In 45 years of driving I have never had a issue with a brake hose but I have had calipers fail. I went with past history first and lost to the tune of $126. The brake hose with a pint of brake fluid was $27. I think it's time to just replace the other side and not worry about it.

Thanks for everyone's response.

Mine on my 97 f150 went the other way. Ruptured going to work one morning and the brakes didn't want to work after that.
