This may seem like a dumb question so please excuse my ignorance. I have an old M700 (5 digit serial #) ADL .270 that I am considering to rebarrel. What are the caliber options for that action/bolt face? Is it simply a matter of finding a M700 barrel in a suitable caliber then getting a 'smith to screw it on and set the headspace?

Thanks in advance.

Any cal that has the same head size and length of the 270 or 06 will work fine

Pretty much anything with a 8mm Mauser case head, Or as some say a .308 or 06' case head. if it was chambered for 270 that is just a necked down 06.

Short list would be

.220 swift even though it's semi rimmed 6mm lee navy
.22-250
.243
6.5X55mm
.250-3000
.25-06
.257 Roberts
.260
.270
7X75mm/ .275 Rigby
.280
.308
7.65X53 Argentine
30-06
8x57
.338-06
.35-06
9x57
9.3X57
.376-06
.416-06

Just to name a few but I'm sure there are thousands that I left out.

I got this 2000 Rem700 BDL 270 at for $400 last year to rebarrel it.

The problem with rebarreling is that 270 is about as good as it gets for deer cartridges, and those cheap to build Rem700 receivers left budget for good barrels. Rem 700 barrels often are very good.

I already have a Win M70, Howa 1500, and Ruger #1 in 270.
I have not shot the Rem 700 yet, but I would bet money it will outshoot my other 270s, and I will never get to rebarrel it.
