That is insane. I think it would be a long time before you would realize any profit margin at that price. Frankly, I had no initial intention of selling any of these rifles until I thought over things. All are duplicates of what I have and keeping these would categorize me as something of an insane hoarder... And, yes, that is a completely insane price....

I guess I'm an insane hoarder by your definition. 2 270 fwt, 2 300 Savages, 2 7MM carbines where are the guys in the white coats? I will confess that I do indeed need some type of intervention.....maybe a 300 Savage carbine

I can think of a lot worse maladies to be afflicted with...
Scarce, original, minty 70s are a great investment in today's soft interest rate environment...

Nice snag Bob. Any others worth a look? Any chance of a 270? Of all the pre-64s I have, I have never owned a 270.
Don Sir: All unreasonably high offers will be seriously considered Seriouly now, are you taking offers on these guns or do you just want us to look at your pictures?

Not really thinking of selling the fiddled .270 at this time
To set the record straight
On a good day I might get $1500
At that price it's a keeper

Its not that hard to shoot a NIB gun, Ive broke 3 in, sold 1 and kept 2, the .264 win mag I plan on keeping till I get pushed off in the bull hole in cow pasture, same story with 338 win mag. Im interested in the 300 win mag NIB. I have one that is about 85 to 90 % I could move and trade up, that would give me a 300 win mag, 264 win mag and 338 win mag all nib till I zeroed them in. very best on a super find!!!! Was the old gent from your neck of woods? the very best WinPoor Just to set record straight, Ive not scoped or shot the 338 win mag yet! I do have a half case of 230 gr failsafe Win ammo, and Im thinking on an Echolds stock before shooting it. Kinda wanted to know I was headed out west where I would need the gun before shooting it. v best WinPoor

IMHO your in the same position with the 338 as with the bull gun. NIB pre 64 M70's don't grow on trees and to shoot one just for the sake of shooting it is incomprehensible to me. You can buy ANY make of 338 and get one to go hunting with. I haven't used mine in 10 years+. If you need one I'll send you mine to use, don't shoot the M70.

IMO, shooting an only proof fired one is nothing more than a financial decision. It is real money, and you don't really know how much it eventually costs you. You have a reasonable idea in today's dollars, but who knows the ramifications in the future. Even so, a financial decision is all it is.
What I really hate to see is when they are altered. IMO, shooting them a bit doesn't detract from people appreciating them for what they are, but altering them does. However, since stocks show handling marks so much more easily than metal (especially the relatively non-durable finish of Pre '64 M70's) I'm all for alternate stocks. I prefer a "beater" wood one, because I have stainless guns in 'glass for the truly tough conditions. I wouldn't subject a nice blued gun to that stuff, even in a 'glass stock, so I like a "correct" stock, possibly with a pad. Just keep that original stock around so you can return the gun to original.
Others may see it differently, but that is what works for me.

I traded the four to a dealer for a $ credit...they will likely be appearing for sale on the Internet unless he has buyers waiting...
I don't keep new guns as I want to shoot everything if I so choose...BUT when it comes to the old 70s it's stupid to shoot a new gun...IMO anyways...

Agree with the foolishness of shooting unfired M70's....

This is America, to each his own. There are plenty of unfired ones out there. Its 2015 and Ive come across about 15 in the last year. Some folks want to marry a virgin. very best WinPoor
