Put together a low cost rig last week and threw a few loads together Thursday eve to try it out. My mount hadn't arrived, so I put a Nikon 6-18x40 on in some cheap mounts to test accuracy. Looks like she wants to play:

Not so great with factory ammo, no surprise:

Doesn't look like I'll have to tinker with the handloads much:

I got rained out while shooting, but hope to get it back out this weekend. Hope to find a deer/hog pill that shows promise.

Have a good one,

loder

I know its probably still hard to find specific primers, but try R 7.5 in the RL15 and in the TAC, it might cut the groups even more.

All the testing I did for yeras I only ended up using 6.5 R one time.

Doens't mean things won't work fine wiht the 6.5 for you but its worth a try.

Really WWSR are the ticket but they are too sensitive to use in an AR, with those powders. IMHO

Yeah, they're still a bit scarce around here. All I have is 6-1/2 and WSR right now. I have a couple K WSRs. Plan to tinker with both and see what works best. I'm going to check at one more shop that might have CCI.

Thanks,

Never shot 4198 but other than that, the other powders, are not known for top results with CCI, but if I was going to try, I'd go M41 or 450, same primer compound differnet cup. Could not see much difference if any between the 2.

If you go Varget, then BR4 hands down.

Man that is not bad for a new build, I like it.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

That TAC load may improve a bit as you work it up hotter.

Why did you mount the scope so far to the rear?

R7RM,

Who's barrel did you mount on it?

I plan to tinker with the TAC load a bit more as there should be another 100fps or so left to go with it.

That's just where it lines up for me to get the proper eye relief. When I put the Leupold on, it will probably end up a bit further fwd.

It's a no name barrel from AR15part.com. Only $145 shipped:

It was a gamble being so cheap, but shoots quite well for the cost.

Pretty nice groups for a "no name" barrel.

I"ve been impressed at times with no name barrels. They've outshot the 3 douglas I wasted time on at times...

Doesn't mean that you get lucky all the time though.

I've virtually quit using WSR's in AR's.........too much tendency to piercing. The newer bronze colored one seem ever worse than the old sliver one, IME.

The silver ones I never ever had an issue. The brass colored ones I never did either but plenty others did, like Federal primers too.

I won't use em personally, except the silvers I have left.

But the wwsr were really good combo with RL15. Lucky Rem 7.5s almost as good and have a heavier cup.
