My cicadas are louder, REALLY...

The first year we moved in we had a load of katydids that made it about unbearable to sit outside. We have not seen them since. The rain is needed. The Guadalupe is roaring right now. My neighbor did a kayak run this AM and said it was fantastic.

From watching the weather the past month or more it would seem that Texas is pulling out of the drought. I can't imagine horns not being good this fall.

Ed...you only have a week to let it rain, then Im gonna be there, and I expect good weather!

I'll try. It's been like this for a few weeks and next week's forecast shows the same.

This is the wettest Spring I can recall here.

Held off raining just enough for me to get some bird counting in this morning, for which I am grateful. The breeding bird count window is from can-see before dawn to four hours after sunrise, and not at all when its raining. If I can just get two more contiguous rain-free hours tomorrow morning or Monday morning I'll be done for the year.

Rain on and off here today.

Supposed to rock and roll again later tonight.

Lake Travis has come up something like 8 feet in the last 30 days.They been dumping water from the lakes around Dallas flooding lots of s%^t.Drought is over.I believe this drought made it to third place for droughts.

Ya, last week I debated crossing a creek that's usually a muddy trickle, but at that time was fast-flowing and dirt-colored. The current in the narrow spot where we (and a kazillion feral hogs) usually cross was only like fifteen feet across, depth unknown. I could see this morning that, had we tried it, as I almost did, me and the dog would have stepped right off into about a three foot-deep hole.

Given the speed of the current and the slick stream bed, I would have been knocked over and gone with the dog downstream to parts deeper.

Discretion is so often the better part of valor.

I emptied 3 1\2in out of the rain gauge in Cen\Austin yesterday.
It rained big-time this a.m. and a little while ago.

We have had 16 inches in the last few weeks. Really unbelievable

It is still going and has not let up. We emptied the gauge noon yesterday and it now shows 5 1/2". Saw more kayakers on the river just a bit ago.

More rain on the way. The Frio River at Leakey hasn't flooded
for 2yrs. A good flushing is about due.

And so it continues with tornado warnings as well. Cibolo Creek has dumped over onto the street in Boerne. My newly licensed son learned today what a bit of water on the road can do to a 6000 # truck.

Sounds like I better pack my flippers, snorkel and spear gun if I intend to hunt....
