Bill McNally was there with some Savages and ammo for sale. Fug flew in for a meeting of the American Society. We walked around looking at some of the things there. He said he'd never seen so many 99's for sale in one place. Condition and price were all over the place. He added to my education on the 99 combo gun cases. There were four for sale. The NRA held their 20th annual gun show in conjunction with our show. There were a lot of displays we don't see at the regular CGCA shows. The NRA judges spent a lot time looking at my display but didn't give me an award. I got a "Display of Merit" from the CGCA judges. I did a special sign since it was the 120th Anniversary of the 1895 and the 50th Anniversary of CGCA. I added some things since the last show Trix sold me this 1895 reloading equipment and bullets last year My cutaway 1899 action. This is the first time I've shown it since I had a machinist cut holes in the side of the receiver. It was beyond being useful as a firearm. Bubba-ed! The disassembled action in my display Weaver T7 and 330 scope In addition to the Speigle Special mentioned in another post, I bought an 1899A short rifle from Bill McNally and an 1899A "B" engraved rifle from another vendor. Nice recent additions to your display and collection and it looks like you found some good rifles there. I've heard it's a good show.

I also replaced a ratty 1899 250-3000 with a nice one, replaced a 99F 300 with a 99F 22 HP, replaced the well-worn 99G 303 with a real clean 99g 30-30 that I already had, replaced the well worn uncheckered 99EG 300 with a really nice 99EG 22 HP, (I now have three 22 HP's in the display, the other one is an 1899H) replaced a pretty nice 99T that had a Weaver T7 and 330 with a real nice 99T (both 300's), replaced a really nice 99F with one from the Winchester collection that appears to be unfired (both 308's), and replaced a fair 358 brush gun with one that is almost perfect. It sounds like you guys would like to see more photos of the 1899A. Last week was a good week, The UPS driver also delivered my caribou mount. Here's a photo of it in the dining room. When I have people over for caribou steaks, I'll tell them he's watching us eat him.https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/default/grin.gif David

Interesting on the comment and info sign for the cutaway receiver. I know Ron very well and am quite uncertain why he told you that the angle at the lockup area of the bolt and receiver is 4 degrees. I double checked factory drawings of the Breech bolt and the "factory Authorized Gunsmith manual" of the eighties , they both show and make reference to the lock up angle on the bolt being eleven degrees. Thanks for that info, JTC. 4 degrees sounded awfully low when I read it, but had already jotted down a note.

Holy Smokes David, that 1899A.., just wow !!! Now that I see you are collecting cutaways (nice! by the way) I need to see if I can find all the parts for my 284 receiver, that's cracked at the forward bridge (read: useless as a firearm), and send it your way. I had every intention of taking dimensions off it, for research sake..but my best laid plans come to nothing..again!

A 284 cutaway would be really neat since it's quite a bit different than the other calibers. PM me with details. Thanks, David

The 308 barrel is thinner and has the raised boss for the rear sight. The barrel groove for the 284 is bigger to accomodate the thicker barrel. You'd have lots of room for glass bedding.
