Anyone on here know of an alternate to the flimsy thing they supply as OEM. Thanks

I have a laminated Heritage style on my RAR-P in 223. I like the ergs, but it added a full pound to the rifle. I might try glassing some carbon-graphite arrow shafts into the forearm of the factory synthetic stock. The trigger guard that Boyds includes in the parts kit for the RAR is plastic, so I'm going to spend a little extra and buy a Savage metal trigger guard for my RAR-P.

Nothing wrong with the stock, but heck it's your money.

The latest version of the factory stock is supposed to have a stiffer forend than the original. I have one a newer RAR on the way but haven't seen it yet, so can 't provide specifics, but like Pharmseller haven't had any troubles with the original that a couple minutes with round rasp in the barrel channel wouldn't cure.

The ergs on the Boyds Heritage are, for me, much better than the factory synthetic stock and spending money is something that I have a lot of experience doing.

Very nice, does the prairie hunter have a higher comb than OEM?

Yes. It's actually a very nice stock. The ergo's are good for me and I've actually seen it work well for men and women.

I have the RAR Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor and didnt find the stock bad enough to add an extra pound to it and like Pharmsellers it is a good shooter. At $370 it is a bargin smile

I was thinking of getting a T3 in 7mm-08 but now think a 7mm-08 RAR would be a good truck / loaner gun.

Curious why one buys a cheaper, economy rifle and then pays to put a better stock on it? Why not just buy a M77 and have the better stock and a better rifle?

I have ordered another RAR-P laminated Heritage, coyote color with wrap around fleur de lis "checkering". While I don't like the extra pound, I do like the ergs and the improvement in balance/feel/handling is worth the cost of the extra weight. Or, at least it is for me.

Because the M77 doesn't have a fast enough twist in 223, for one.

Also, if you want new and stainless, the RAR is the only option from Ruger.

Wonder if or when McMillan, Manners, or somebody will start making a good fiberglass replacement?

I did it because I wanted a medium weight 6.5 Creedmoor to play with and I don't mind spending a little extra $$ if that makes it closer to the way that I want it to be. Not much different than buying a rifle like a CLR and then spending double the cost for an upgraded barrel and stock, maybe 'cause tinkers just gotta' tinker.

Most of my Ruger 77s are either mannlicher stocked 77 RSIs or 77R/RL/Vs in unusual configurations, collectors rather than shooters.

The American is a good rifle in the $350ish class. Add an aftermarket stock and you now have a $500+ rifle. There are better options at $500.
