The weather forecast called for intermittent showers starting this afternoon. Thought I'd get a fishing run in this morning. I hit the lake about 5:30. By 6:00 it was raining. At 6:15 there was thunder in the distance. I don't stay out in a thunderstorm in an aluminum boat full of graphite rods. Tied everything down and headed for the ramp. No close hits, but the thunder and lightning was definitely in the area. Hunkered down in the boat, hugged the shoreline as tight as I dared and beat a hasty retreat. By now the rains coming in really hard. Nothing like getting sandblasted by rain drops. Back home now safe and sound. There ain't a bucket o' fish in the world worth staying out in a lightning storm.

I was out again today. Mercifully, the rain held off. 'Caught 12 nice sunfish. One more batch and I'll have a respectable fish fry.

How right you are about lightning.... Many many years ago I took accident photos for our county sheriff before they had their own cameras. One call was for a fisherman hit by lightning on one of our area lakes. The guy was in a 12 foot aluminum boat with a five horse green Johnson motor on it so you can imagine how long ago that was! At any rate the bolt of lightning hit him on the top of his head. You can imagine the rest of the picture....
From that day on whenever I see hear thunder, I get nervous and head for shore....

GG, you guy catch many pumpkinseeds? I fish for sunfish most ofthe time and I have only caught a handfull of them around here. Beautiful fish those critters are.
As for lightning, I was fishing a plastic worm about 14 years ago on a steep rock bank and I kept hearing this ticking sound. I noticed it would start out slow then get faster till it sounded like bacon frying. Then I noticed it was doing it as I raised and lowered my rod! Then I looked down at my line and it left the tip of my rod and went down to about six inches off the water and hovered over the water for about 10-12 foot then went into the water above my lure! Freaked me out, I reeled in, laid my rod down in the floor of the boat and shagged azz to the ramp.
