Is this a 22" or 24" Barrel?

Funny, I had just dug out the 2002 Remington Catalog and in one place it lists it as having a 26" bbl. and in another it lists a 24". I have one and mine has only a 22" bbl. Something funny going on here.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

I believe most of the Classic series offerings are 24"barrels. if yours is a 22" barrel it's not a Classic.

I stand by what I said. Remington Classics were made by caliber for one year only. This one .221 Fireball.was the 2002 offering and has a 24" barrel. There may have been other special runs in that caliber in different barrel lengths but the Classics in .221 Fireball are all 24" barrels.

I once bought a brand new Model 7 that didn't have any threads tapped into the receiver for bases. Remington said it was a mistake.
Doesn't happen that often, but maybe Big Green goofed and stuck a 22" tube on Grasshoppers Classic rig?

I find the Remington catalogs (maybe everyone elses, I just pay more attention to Remington) to be fairly weak.

I believe they claimed their 700 classic in 280 was to have a 24" tube, but when it came out, it had a 22". A few years later they came out with the 7mm-08 Classic with a 24" tube. ???

I think the 250 Sav Classic had a 24" and the 6.5x55 Classic had a 22".

No rhyme or reason, that I could see.

If you hold it in your hand, and have the hang tag, it still doesn't hurt to measure it.

SGT,

Oh, I believe you all right.

I just bought mine this week. I had a N.I.B. special run w/laminated stock that I had just sold to a buddy. (It had 24" bbl.) Then another friend called me and wanted to sell his "Classic". He brought it over and I paid him for it. I set it in the vice and was looking it over. I said: "that doesn't look like a 24" bbl". So I measured it and was quite surprised.

Sycamore is right. I once had a N.I.B. M-700 AS in .243 that was labeled on the box as a 24" bbl. It was only 22". I KNOW Remington makes mistakes from time to time.
