I have the VX6 1-6 with Firedot and the only time I use it, is when I'm trying to hit targets on the run on 1x, basically like a red dot.

And while I have shot our 800 yard steel range with the 1-6 the CDS dial with zero stop will only go out to a little past 600 yards. I use other scopes to go further but would be fine out to 300 yards killing stuff without the CDS. In fact my custom dial is in the drawer, hence my suggestion of a regular quality scope like the 1.5-5

A bunch of EasTex hog hunters around here have gone all ga-ga over the long-discontinued Zeiss Conquest 1.8x5.5. It has the celebrated Conquest reputation for great value and the reticle is coarse enough for good low-light performance. I once had my .375 H&H Whitworth equipped with one, and was very happy, but a guy threatened me with bodily harm if I didn't sell it to him for mounting on his AR hog gun.

Just watch EBay and Gunbroker.

I have the Weaver 1-5x with the CIRT. I also have the Leupold 1.5x4 Firedot. Both are great scopes. I use the Firedot on my hunting AR because it's 1" tube and lighter. The Weaver is front focal plane so it works almost like a red dot at 1X. At 5x the dot is about 2MOA. It's a good scope but the only one I have with FFP so it takes a little to get used to it.

I think it'd be hard to beat the Leupold in that price range.

Just be warned, that Firedot reticle is thick enough to be frustrating while shooting paper. It can be done, it just takes more care. But for all around shooting the Firedot is great.

I'll second that! I love mine.

Take a long look at the Leupold Picatinny rail mount before you buy the LaRue. I bought my scope with the Leupold mount as a package, saved money, and it is a great, solid mount.

I picked up a Weaver Classic Extreme Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 1.5-4.5x 24mm Illuminated Dot #4 Reticle Matte a few years ago but never found a home for it so I'd let it go for $210/shipped. It's never been mounted on anything but would be a great option for an AR. If you're interested, just let me know.....

Like this one but mine has a German #4 reticle - LINK

I have 2 only mine are duplex. One sits on a FNAR and the other on a 350 Rem Mag bolt action. Best scope for the money.

I shot this group today with the Leupold 1.5x4 w/ SPR reticle on 4X at 100 yards. I think it's a great scope! Love the green dot.

The handload I mentioned in my first post with the 60 gr. V-Max was worked up with a Leupold VX-2 3x9x40 on the rifle. With that scope I was consistently shooting from 1/2" - 3/4" groups. I can still consistently hold the load under 1" with the AR Mod-1 set at 4X. I shot some 200 yard groups and all were under 3" and my target was actually too large for good centering of the crosshairs. I ring 8" steel easy peasy at 300 yards. With both eyes open and the dot turned on and magnification turned down to 1.5X shots at 15 yards are very fast. It isn't a target or prairie dog scope but that's not what I use the rifle for.

I've got a Leupold 1.5-4X28 VX2 Scout Scope on my new M1A Scout Rifle that works alot better than I thought it would.
I can't as easily pick out .30 caliber bullet holes in the white at 100 yds. as I can with either my 1.25-4X20 VX-R, or my 4X FXII, but it's surpringly close. Since the scope has only 6-6.9 inches of eye relief, the image not only shows detail well, but it allows one to see around the scope to help one algin the target. I paid $300 for mine from Optics Planet. E

the clicks on the $299 1-4 SWFA I bought at their black friday sales are much more positive than the clicks on the $1000 VX6 I bought

The "clicks" on my 1.5-4X28 FX2 Scout and on my 1.25-4X20 VX-R Patrol have not only felt good, but they have always worked precisely. E

The Strike Eagle is just arriving on the shelves after a much anticipated release. No word yet as to their quality. If I can lay my hands on one and look thru it, it is on my short list for a new 3 gun scope.

Looked thru the burris and found the eye relief to be very critical, similar to the Nikon I looked thru. Never seen an SWFA anything, have heard goodly things but not enough to pluck down $300+ of my moola on anything they make. I ended up with the non-firedot version of the 1.5-4x Mk AR. I really do like this scope and can see one or two applications for some other rifles I own (of course in non-tactical trim).

It's worth what cha paid. smile
