Hope and I recently got notified we'd been drawn for a trophy unit in NM. Hope shoots a 7mm-08ai (24" barrel), and I'd been planning on her using the 120 gr TTSX for our next elk hunt. She has used this bullet for several years with very good success on white tail deer here in MO with a MV of a little over 3200 fps. Since we got this draw, I am re-thinking whether that may be the best decision or not. This is her gun with a stock sized to fit her 5-3 frame, and she shoots it well. Am I over thinking this?

.....Am I over thinking this? Yes... But as I recall she's already shot elk with her 7/08AI....what did she use for a bullet then and why the change?
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

If I could agree more than 100%, I would. She shot a decent 5x5 in 2009 using the same cartridge and a 140 gr TSX. We've since changed her to the 120 gr TTSX and she really likes the flatter shooting trajectory. Thanks guys, I'm good now

bludog I am no TTSX whiz kid for sure. But I watch and listen to friends. One close buddy on here just got back from Africa, having whacked some 40 head of assorted stuff with 130 TTSX from a 270.
I'm staring at two 130 NPT's pulled from the offside of 360 class bull. If that'll do it, a 7mm 120 TTSX will too.

The 120 ttsx on elk is plenty good especially with a well placed shot.
What unit did you draw?

You answered your own question. If you mess with her rig you may mess up her hunt. Leave it alone. If you consider the bullet to be a little light, it won't hurt for her to keep shooting until he stops moving.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I used to escort elk hunters years ago. I always preferred, heavy for caliber bullets. I have little to no experience with the lighter ones. If she gets an elk please post her results. After see @100 killed, I am just realizing I don't know it all.
