I bought some new Winchester brass last week & went to reload it today... ...I had to pull 1 case right off the bat, because it wouldn't fit in the shell holder...no biggie, chit happens. I went ahead & full length resized & found an additional 5 that felt like I was popping primers out of them...(flash hole chunks that hadn't been completely punched)...oh well...I then chamfered the inside of the necks & primed the cases...so far so good, then the fun starts...I charge the first case & notice powder clinging to the inside of the neck...WTF???...At first I thought maybe I'd somehow caused this myself so I start picking cases at random out of the line I'd resized...about 1 in 5 seem to have some kind of residue on them (oil/lube) in no specific order in terms of being the first or last to be sized, so I'm pretty sure it's just another factory [bleep] up... ...normally I avoid winchester brass because of like problems I've had in the past...really pisses me off. NO, I didn't have excess lube on my pad, & I only lightly rolled the body across the pad & didn't touch the necks. Anybody else had this happen?

Not at all trying to sound like an industry flack, but might this just be an example of what happens when a company tries too hard to respond to the incessant clamor by reloaders to put out more product whatever it takes?

Perhaps they are cutting the cleaning cycles a bit shorter to increase their hourly output. Or maybe the inspectors have been pulling too many shifts on the frantic 24/7 production schedule.

are you sure the oil in the case necks diddn't come from the expander ball on your sizer?

toad...if it was from my dies it would be on the first few...not the first, 22nd, 25th, 33rd 47th...you get the picture???
I went ahead & swabbed the necks with light swabs of alcohol & am just gonna hope that the problem is just in the necks & isn't in the body...from now on I guess I'll go back to boiling them like I did,once upon a time...

I dont think its just win brass , I just got some new rem brass in 243 and I found 5 outa 100 that the necks were split ???????

It is hard to find quality anymore where ever you look. Rocky may have it right but I seldom have bought brass over the last ten years where all of them have been usable.

I sometimes get powder clinging to the neck with static from the loading block.

Trickling/loading by hand gets rid of the sticky necks.

Or maybe it's just funky lube....

No, it was shoddy manufacturing. Some of the swabs came out grey, the others were fine. I noticed a lot of blemishes on a lot of cases too. One of my old friends is going to China next month on business...Maybe they'd be interested in producing some quality brass...probably much cheaper than damn near a quarter each...I'm pissed.

Yeah it does...I'm gonna avoid winchester [bleep] like I do ugly, one legged, fat girls...They'll do in a pinch,(or when drunk) but not for regular consumption...I just recently started buying winchester cases again after an abstinance of about 30 years...I figured maybe they had worked out all their old problems...I guess not.
I'm gonna send them the empty bag along with a letter of appreciation for allowing me to put my anger management skills to good use...

WW brass has been very good to me including some very recently ordered 270 brass. I would not be so impetuous over an example of once.
