Anybody ever slapped a Rem 700 take off barrel onto a model 7 action and been lucky enough not to have any headspace issues? I have done several 700 to 700 swaps and headspace has been perfect every time, the lettering even lined up in each case. Not sure what my chances are with the mod 7 though. Surely someone has tried it? Chambering is same/same for each barrel.

If every Remington 700 barrel you've swapped onto other actions headspaced with the factory roll-stamps in exactly the right place, you should buy a lottery ticket, 'cause that very seldom happens to me. I've recycled dozens of Remington 700 barrels onto 7, 600, 660, and 722 action. I doubt that the factory roll-stamps line up properly more than 10% of the time without some machine work on any action other than the action that the barrel was originally installed on. That said, I like tight/minimum headspace.

I probably used all my lottery luck up on the barrels:) 3 for 3 so far. Just wanted to see if there was a "chance" that the 700 barrel could go on the 7 without any machine work. For this project, I dont really care where the stamping ends up so long as the headspace ends up acceptable. Thanks.

About 1/2 of my Remington 7s have been rebarreled with Remington 700 take-offs. Same threads and shank specs, so it is an easy swap. If you don't care where the original roll-stamps end up when the headspace meets your needs, there probably wouldn't be any machine work necessary to "time" the barrel.

Nothing to have the chamber cleaned up and a thread cut to line everything up.
My 308 M7 is wearing a sporter contour 700 tube.

My 7 would look more proper if I'd have had the threads cut to line things up. We just screwed the take off tube on and checked headspace. All good and one of my best shooters too.

Yes, but there are multiple cuts that need to be made because of the 700's recessed breech, not as simple as a flat breech barrel, like the Mausers, Ruger 77s, and push-feed Winchester 70s.

I don't give a Schittt if the letters and numbers line up, I just screw them on and shoot them...been doing it since 1984.

Me neither. I put 'em on there to shoot, not to look at.

For myself, I don't really care where the roll stamps end up when I swap barrels, but I don't really care to have front/rear sight holes anywhere but TDC or BDC. However, folks who are paying to have a barrel installed are generally more particular, 'cause they seems to think that the alignment of the roll stamps has something to do with headspacing.

When I threw a SPS barrel on my 7, the roll mark even came out within a few degrees of where it should be. I really didn't like the whippy pencil barrel that came with it, the SPS barrel cut to 20" seems to balance it out nice.
