Sweet! Peaking my interest!
From the looks of it now, why so long until it is done?
What caliber? .450 BPE I hope!
Beautiful! Photos should be banned as gun porn.
Yep gun porn! BPE? Heaven forbid. 450 NE 3 1/4".
Here we go!
Nice Jorge. No, gorgeous!
Congratulations on a fine looking firearm!
That is freakin' beautiful!!! Congrats!
Jorge,
I think that you should come shoot a couple of hogs up here to draw first blood.
That double is fine work of functional art.
Yep gun porn! BPE? Heaven forbid. 450 NE 3 1/4".
Well how about .450 No.2 or .577-450 if you must. I know!!!! .45-70!!!!! of course!
BTW, how the hell is he going to get the hammers on there?
If it shoots as good as it looks you are gonna have a sweet rig!

I'd rather hit a body appendage with a ball peen hammer resting on an anvil than a 45/70
Glad to see your DR is coming along Jorge, it's been a long time coming.

Sorta masochistic fantasies there Jorge. Be careful and maybe you should talk to a shrink about this.
Jorge, that thing is gonna be to purtty to take to Tanzania...
maddog
You know, Jorge is starting to collect some very nice hardware. Makes you wonder if a rich Aunt died, or now that he is no longer on AD, he is feeding a long pent up gun lust. Either way, that's a good collection.
It's called having to work AFTER retirement to support this addiction AND a high maintenance wife!
Brent: No pshychobabble, I just have a pathological dislike for that cartridge

Indeed you do. You should have that looked into sometime. I too was once an anti-45-70er too, but I got over it and now my life has never been better. It could happen to you too
Beautiful rifle, Jorge. Where are you going to hunt with it?
I look at the 45/70 kinds like I look at the RP kooks. Dislike them most (not all) more than I do RP himself!
RAC: Planning on a 2X buff hunt in TZ in 2013.

Well of course you do. And you can't even imagine all the fun that has cost ya
RAC: Planning on a 2X buff hunt in TZ in 2013.
Excellent. A perfect opportunity for a .45-70 rifle
Seriously, it is a nice rifle.
Nice rifle
Now a short wait and another wait for 2013!
Wonderful shootin iron there, Jorge. Thanks for sharing it as it comes along.
Thanks all. Just recived another note the barrels are being blued. Also the receiver will be CCH and not coin finish. Going for that "Brit Look" without the big bucks!
Speaking of 'without the big bucks', do you mind sharing about what kind of dough is required to get your builder to do such a project? I want (needd, actually) to sell or trade off my custom 416 Rigby and go down in recoil to the 9.3x74 round. Want to buy or have built someday a SxS rifle - shotgun combo with a pair of 9.3x74 Barrels and a pair of 20GA barrels. on the same frame and stock. Would be, IMO, one of the more useful travelling to Africa for a combo hunt set ups. THANKS, Mark
Mark: just go to the Verney-Carron website and email Ken and he can give you a good quote on what you want. I think starting prices for doubles are at around 10.5K
You can do the coin finish of course, on your own after it has been cased. Takes minutes or an hour or two at most. Easier than falling off a log. It will really show off that nice engraving too. Be a shame not to highlight it.
Just did my target highwall this way (but it is a .45-70 of course), but I only took it half way to what one would consider a true "coin" finish - just to be different. Anyway, it's easy.

Nice! "Starting price" at 10.5K...?
That one sure doesn't look "entry level"...!

I got to look (not fondle, of course) this old thing today at the Frazier History Museum in Louisville this afternoon. You might recognize it as "Big Stick", the H&H that TR took to Africa.................... Sorry about the quality of the pic, but photos weren't allowed anyway, so I was pushing my luck just snapping that one. 'Big Medicine' wasn't there, but they did have an 1895 in .30/40 to represent the breed.
Thanks for the photo's Jorge, Your gonna love that V/C, I've shot the hell outta mine and it's still bank vault tight and accurate.
Gunner
Brent: I looked at both finishes with that scroll engraving and the CCH really looked identical to an old style Brit double so that is what I went with. So you took off the CCH and refinished as coin?
My gun is not that far of an upgrade from the basic model guys.

What is a "Coin Finish," and how do you do it?
JorgeI,
Thanks for the pictures, it's truely a thing of beauty. Can I ask why you are chambering it for 450 NE 3 1/4" vs they more popular and available 470 NE? Both are great cartridges, the 450 NE is the original, I'm just curious.

That is such a gorgeous gun, it's hard to think of it as anywhere near entry level. I like CCH, too. I guess as it ages and loses some case colors, it will eventually silver and look more like a coin finish. I like that look, too, and honest wear on a fine gun just adds character.
I know you're going to enjoy that one...

Thanks for the compliments. As to caliber selection, a few things to ponder; Virtually identical ballistic performance with slightly better Sectional Density to the 450. Also, 458 caliber bullets are readily available and a lot cheaper than 470 bore. Same for brass and loaded fodder. Perhaps more importantly, the 450 can be built on a trimmer action making for a lighter, better handling rifle.
Thank you for sharing your reasoning. Have you decided which bullets you will use, Woodleigh, Swift, Hornady? Do you have a choice of which bullet/load the rifle will be regulated for? Sadly, I have not had the pleasure of handling a 450 NE or a 470 NE so I have no reference on how much trimmer and better handling one is over the other. Good luck with your project.
Rifle is regulated for factory Hornady ammo and I can duplicate with either DGX/S or Woodleighs
Hi Jorge,
I'm really glad to see you like french firearms. Your Verney Carron is a great rifle made by Atelier Verney Carron, the custom shop of that french gunmaker. For other guys on the fire this "Atelier" was the former Demas company of Ste Etienne, firearms capital of France. Verney Carron reorganized every thing under the management of a custom gunmaker called Jrome Lanoux. Under his direction the old french company produce double rifles, shotguns and single shot break open. This custom shop is a answer to Chapuis Armes their african doubles... That's good business
Here are two pictures of one 500 NE they made last year and one of a custom shotgun. Jorge you are a man with "taste and class"!!
Don't encourage him. Can't find a hat to fit his head as it is. It come with the joystick and the Dress Whites........................:)
OK that is cool..but let's get back to the Bra thing!
Jorge,
I think even Allen wold approve of that double. Pretty sexy.
-Steve
Marseille: Thanks and those are beautiful! I'm really looking forward to receiving mine sometime this September. I learned about VC from a friend of mine then I had an opportunity to check VCs and other comparable rifles at the Dallas Convention and the VCs were just superb!
Jeff you know me too well. Me an ego???
Steve, I think you are right, Allen must be looking down with approval!
jorge
...and I get a new Sharps
Looks like we both hit some kind of lootery (misspelling intentional
)
Wow! First class fit and finish there. Did you go in for a fitting or two??
I was fitted at the Dallas Safari Club convention. Fitting took about 45 minutes.
Boys, I just sent the check, the rifle is finished and shipping this week. I should have it in my hands week of 5 Sept. jorge
I can't wait for the photos.
It seems that there are two words used when you are envious, and Jorge: You Suck! Looking forward to the pictures and more importantly, the stories.
When are you going to test it on what?

Well said my boy.
Secondly: JORGE, you OFFICIALLY SUCK!!!
Well done Pieter
He already owns a classic
the new and pretty one is his. The old decrepit one is mine.

I had t laugh too guys. Pieter I plan to use it on Buffalo in Tanzania soon.
I sure wish you many happy hunting hours with that rifle! I'll be in Zimbabwe when you get it and am unsure if I will see the pictures when you post them, so please just send me the thread so I can pick up on it when I'm back. Have you employed someone yet to carry it for you?
Looks to me like they put the cheekpiece on the wrong side.
VERY nice otherwise
Not yet, still haven't even finalized. Not till 2013 anyway and then I might wind up in Zim for a straight up leopard/buff hunt.
Hey Jorge, what ya need to do right now is put up that COOL pic of the Sharps,Teddy Safari gun,and the 1909 Colt on the zebraskin. That way EVERYBODY can hate you!!!
I have to find them and put them on photobucket. They are :here" somewhere but I'm too lazy to search for them. your photos naver made it to AOL or my phone BTW.
I'll re-do them wid my real camera and send 'em to ya later. As for your pic, wait 'til ya have the double rifle and re-do thepic with ALL of the cool bullet launchers on the zebba skin
jorge
Your Navy pension must be way better than my provincial government pension. Glad for you brother you deserve some reward for your years of service.
Randy
Hey whilst my pension is very nice, I'm working for the first time in my life. Hell this is my second job since I retired. My WIFE has expensive tastes
Medicman, I second that thought about having served.
EvilTwin if someone seriously sucks, what's the next step up from that??
My WIFE has expensive tastes

It is rumored my wife is the re-incarnation of Imelda, fiscally speaking of course as she is the opposite of an LBFM
Beautiful - How much coin are you dropping on this?
A rough idea:
VC FOR SALE Mine is the AZUR Safari Standard with slight upgrades, Color Case Hardened vice coin finish, three leaf express sights, etc. jorge
Medicman, I second that thought about having served.
EvilTwin if someone seriously sucks, what's the next step up from that??
You are progressing quickly pilgrim!!
The term you want is "WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE YOU ABSOLUTELY SUCK".
If ya wanna get even wid Brother Jorge, just post periodic pics of yer hunting successes. Then YOU will Officially Suck.

That's the payback for all those months you were deployed!!!!

EvilTwin you are starting to suck just a little bit with your GRAND advice. Keep the advice flowing and you will soon SUCK WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE !
And you mean something like below?
Yer a quick study!!
YOU oughta come to El Norte and knock off one of our extremely TASTY critters. Moose and buffler qualify. Caribou and elk do too. Jorge wants another cape buff and a cat. IF I had the dust, I'd go for a Brown Bear with that old Sharps you see here.
Yep, he's learning QUICK! YOU OFFICIALLY SUCK!
I burned myself out while I was younger doing the work three jobs thing. I got two 220 grand houses paid off in five years but caused serious mental problems doing so. Now all I can think of is shooting, hunting.... and Africa. I will try and get a teaching job when I pull the pin. The ambulance service I work for is afraid I will work past 65. We loose 5% for every year we go before 65. I have been purchasing rifles before retirement so I don't need to work after, but it is really hard to think of being out of work.
jorge I am happy for you and the viking lady. Watch your topknot when she hears you think she is expensive
Randy
Thanks, Randy! BTW can you expand on the 5% loss after 65? thanks!!
You misread what he said.
It was if he went early, then he loses 5%.
"We loose 5% for every year we go before 65."
right you are Partsman.
Leave at 60 loose 25%
Leave at 55 loose 50%
65 looks like the charm.
I am hoping for two more years. My wife manages the bank, I manage to spend more than I should. She has been planning for retirement and so we will be OK, but the government pension will only be 2000 a month with another 1000 old age security. The deer in the back 80 acres will be a good source of protein.
Randy counting months
Wow!! That's really nice Jorge. That's one of the things on my wish list, same caliber too. If it wasn't for those pesky Africa trips I would already have one.
Mike
Well, it did cost me about as much as one, so it was not an easy call to make, but I just had to have one
Rifle's in the air inbound to Customs as we speak. Hopefully I'll have it at the end of next week.
Just came across this thread.
What happened with your Sabatti Jorge? Did yours have the infamous "dremeled" crowns?? I was tempted to buy one myself, until I started reading the reports on AR.
I've fondled a Verney-Carron at DSC. Nice DR for sure, and think your choice of the 450 NE 3 1/4" is an excellent selection.
Yes it did, although it shot very well, I couldn't live with that. Got a full refund from Cabelas. The ones that dont have that issue are GREAT VALUE. British style all the way, well built and tight. I put over 200 rounds through it.
Jorge, I can understand and appreciate that line of thinking. Even though their DR's are inexpensive (relatively speaking), it's still a hunk of change to spend on a rifle that leaves questions and doubts...
That's unfortunate on Sabatti. Had they regulated the DR's properly (even if they had to charge a little more) they would undoubtedly have had difficulty keeping up with demand.
Look forward to seeing pictures of your new double. Are you going to stick with Hornady DGS and DGX bullets?
I personally have become enamored with the FP Solids. Need to work up a load for my Chapuis 9.3x74R with the 286gr. NF FP Solid!
There are a lot of good ones out there without the muzzle issues and I continue to recommend them just as long as you are looking out for that problem. I put a LOT of rounds through the Sabbati so I learned a lot about reloading for doubles. I have the factory specs from Hornady so I can duplicate via handloads. With the Sabbati, I managed to get the Woodleighs to shoot to POI. I have some DGX and Woodleighs on hand for load development and once I get through that, I'll probably try North Forks. It will all be up to the rifle and what she regulates with
jorgeI, if the DGX and DGS regulate for you, their performance[based on 4 animals] is awesome.
maddog
The rifle comes regulated with those at my request and I think I'll probably stick with them.
Guys, just got these in from Verney-Carron.
It is worth underlining that the side by side double action of the Atelier Verney-Carron has an exceptional design: instead of having a single hook between the barrels, as is common in the old and common designs, it has 3 parallel hooks which provide for an in line resistance to the opening efforts when a round is fired from either barrel.
The 3 parallel slots in which the 3 parallel hooks insert themselves can be seen on the above picture.
This break-action was designed by Paul Demas who had previously designed the Chapuis action which has 2 parallel hooks. When he designed the Azur with a 3rd parallel hook, Demas made the ultimate step forward: the design can be seen as perfect. No action can be stronger.
I consider the Verney-Carron Azur action with 3 hooks to be the finest design for double rifles. Definitely the type of action I would want on a double rifle for serious big game.
I look forward to the pictures that jorgeI will make and I hope he will include pictures of the hooks.
jorgeI congratulations for a superb and clever choice.
Another design feature is where the cocking rods are placed. The thick sides of the action are there for strength, most makers drill a hole through them and then put the cocking rods through them. For strength the V-C the rods are closer to the center of the action. This leaves the sides of the action stronger then if a hole was drilled through them.
Thanks for tne description guys. Ken now get ready to leave early for the Airport on Tuesday, clear them through customs and get it sent to me!!!!
Christmas comes early this year!
I hope Santa doesn't forget me

My import/customs broker handles the paperwork for customs and I will be talking to her first thing Tuesday. With a little luck and customs is not to far backed up because of the holiday it will on its way to you before the end of the week.
Gittin' a mite antsy are we Pard???

Nothing heard yet. Rifle should be at customs
Ken,
Nice chatting with you this afternoon, and thanks again on getting me squared away on a set of 30mm rings for my Chapuis.
Jorge,
We all expect a few pictures of your new DR and a range report!

The ball's in Ken court!
Rifle is in Ken's hands men and shortly to the UPS guy. I'll have it Monday!
Correction, Tuesday.
Isn't Tuesday a national holiday? I don't think there are going to be any deliveries.
Your poor rifle is spending this weekend in a dark lonely shipping dock. Being shuffled about. Probably the bottom box with a stack of democratic propaganda flyers on top of it. Too horrible to think of
The horror... probably a case of Tampax for the NOW Convention is on top of it...the horror..
...and it is sitting on top of a box of Brady Campaign propaganda leaflets
You guys like to twist the blade once you insert it.
Randy
Randy I ASSURE YOU that very soon Brother Jorge will be returning the sentiment to me
There could be a post 9/11 security check of all packages.......which would delay many deliveries.........just fyi
Monday night.....TIC TOC TIC TOC. I hope you sleep well tonight. Now you remember how your grandkids feel Dec 24th.
Randy
jorge,
You know the board rules, so I hope you have your camera batteries charged up and ready for the pictures you have to post of you shooting the rifle and the targets!
John
Grandkids??? hell no. My ego just could not take that! Yes camera's up and ready. Delivery sched around 1300 at the local gun shop.
Did you guys hear about the UPS jet from Europe that had to jettison all it's cargo over the Atlantic last night? Lots of stuff gone apparently.

I like that.

Yes I saw that. Reports say it was a coordinated incident with Somali pirates who were waiting to pickup the jettisoned packages.

I have a buddy who works US Customs at Hartsfield-Jackson who was telling me last evening about this rifle they seized yesterday. Sounds like a beauty. It was headed to a gun shop in Orange Park, Florida, but had incomplete paperwork. I understand it will be destroyed unless it is "lost in inventory".
Too bad. Someone will be darned disappointed.
oops must not be mine as mine is going to a shop in Jacksonville. Whew! had me going

You guys are just mean....
New here?
Just e-mailed you a funny one to your work account.
I heard a report about a suspicious package in a UPS truck in Jacksonville, Fla.
Bomb squad was called in and it was destroyed for precaution. It turned out to be an Italian rifle of some type. Mission was ruled a success. They thought it was a double pipe bomb.
Good thing Jorge's rifle is French
y'alls meanness has no bounds!!!! French yes, then again so is Catherine Deneuve
man, getting puckered up right now, every time I go and get up I pull the cushion up with me! I'm having flashbacks to night traps!
I was hoping y'all wouldn't alert Jorge to that. His order got mixed up in customs and Jorge was being sent another Sabatti. What Jorge thought he ordered was actually being sent to a Texas Cabelas. I am on the way to Fort Worth now. Wow I never thought I would get a VC at a Sabatti price
What time does the gun shop close?
Pipe bombs, laughing...Jorge i hope your Verney Carron will arrive in good condition and that the french gunsmiths had done it well. I know they can be very good but your waiting makes me nervous too.
Regards
Dom
Actually my cousin Mel got a job as a Customs supervisor after he lost his job with the TSA.
I've already arranged to meet him in the parking lot at Shoney's in Montgomery,Alabama.
I'm gonna trade him a Remington 742 with see thru mounts and a world class tasco for 'the rifle formerly known as Jorge's'.
It's all legit since he seized the rifle for improper documentation all fair and square and bought it at the hastily arranged semipublic auction.
Mel says I can trust him because he's with the government and was appointed by the Obama administration. Who can argue with that?
I think jorgeI will have half the fire on "ignore" before this is done!
Well men, sorry I'm late but I've been er..busy! The gun arrived and I got there exactly 42 seconds later
Well men it's here and it's everything I expected. Two things stand out: I have NEVER had a gun fit me so well and proof-positive that getting measured and measured correctly is an absolute must. The other is the target. I took a pair of calipers and measured the holes center to center and they are within .001 of what the barrel separation is. Hopefully I can shoot it as well.
I'll have to retake the pics as they really suck and not do the cch justice. The CCH is very subdued but in the light of day the colors really come to light. On my scales it came in right at 10.15lb.
A great big ATTABOY there, jorge. Congratulations. Getting a rifle like that is better than your first bicycle, I would think.
Looks great, I would love to see more pictures when you get an opportunity. thanks for sharing. GRF
Atta boy Jorge. That will make them jealous. Nice rifle. Do you know where it is regulated for, and with what load?
Randy
Christmas before time! Glad you got it and in good shape, Jorge. Whish you good hunting with it.
Regards from south of France.
Dom
Atta boy Jorge. That will make them jealous. Nice rifle. Do you know where it is regulated for, and with what load?
Randy
Factory Hornady 480gr DGXs @2150 fps. I can duplicate the load with ~95gr H-4831 qne Fed 215 primers.
SWEET !!!When's range day??
Unfortunately not until next week as we leave for Dallas on Friday for a big B-day bash with some friends.
My wife says the rifle and I should get a room. She named it "Catherine" after the french actress Catherine Deneuve. Sure honey, I'll get a room:
If it is a French gun you are looking for I would be happy to trade this Dumoulin straight up. Your gun is nice but it doesn't hold as many shells as this one but I will try and make do. I have also enclosed the regulation target. Unfortunately the target is in French and I cant read it so I will cover shipping to make up the difference.
It's a 270 so you will have no problems finding ammo.
I am not to sure if that 450 NE will ever catch on but I am willing to take a chance.
So when are we going to get together and slay some buffalo with it?
Well, we can discuss at DSC. Tanzania 2013 is my goal. 14 days two buffalo...
Well, we can discuss at DSC. Tanzania 2013 is my goal. 14 days two buffalo...
I'm having issues with some rule about 'Thou shall not covet thy neighbors perfect double rifle.'
I have to pay estimated tax tommorow,or I'd be driven to buy my own. Can and go on the same hunt and just look at it?
Boy that certainly is a good looking piece! It'll be fun to see how the regulated barrels perform. Now you need to buy the wife a new mattress.
A Q as I am considernig one. Did you specify the grade of wood?
Nice rifle. It looks a rifle that is begging to hunt. Well done
Beautiful rifle. You better not let your wife see how much oil you got on her mattress.
A Q as I am considernig one. Did you specify the grade of wood?
Standard wood order on the Azur Safari.
That is a very beautiful rifle Jorge. Congratulations and the best of luck to hunting with it. It is very British looking, quite proper don't you know. How long are the barrels?
I had them made at 25" And I specifically wanted the Brit influence, hence the CCH and straight lined box lock.
Really nice! I can't wait to see it in the flesh. I wonder how many rounds and how much recoil before it knocks the grin off of your face?
Well I put over 200 rounds through the Sabbati! Jeff like I said previously, this rifle fits me like no other and the idea of a 450NE can be housed in a slimmer-trimmer action that the 470s and give up nothing in power is also true in spades. This rifle feels like a 410. They also did a real nice job in rounding the receiver bottom so there are no sharp edges. I might bring it to Dallas and let Ken show it at his booth with the pricess as the "shill"
Wow! That's some serious range time! Looks like you're on your way to a great career with it!
jorge, that is a really sweet rifle. Just exactly right for a hunting rifle. It will look good across the bosses of a few buffalo. I look forward to that picture.
But have another set of barrels made - in .45-70 of course
375 Flanged!
It's a really sweet-handling rig. thanks!
375 flanged does not sound unreasonable for a squirrel rifle
9.3x72R (I think that's the designation) would be another good squirrel rifle.
You could use that caliber for deer and the like, but that would be "stunt hunting"
I'm just not a metric guy. Stunt? well yeah if I get that 45/70!
Hey Swabbie, TWO more pics required!! One of the big holes at the open breech and anudder of the 2 big holes at the business end!!!
Throw in a couple of shots with the panatela size cartridges along side.
Think you're spoke of 9,3x74R. Very close to the 360N2 and not far from 375 H&H flanged magnum. The 9,3x72R is rather an anemic round no more chambered today.

Also known as stunt hunting deer/antelope caliber. Basically a glorified squirrel rifle

Congrats on your new DR Jorge. Hope you get to make some lasting memories with the VC real soon!
Throw in a couple of shots with the panatela size cartridges along side.
Thanx for the pics of the two sewer pipes welded together and the brass cigar that goes in them
Sweet rifle Jorge!!..should take care of the meanery
For Jorge who buy french rifle and Brent who like squirrel gun a picture of another french made rifle, must be good for a squirrel family...Triple in 375 H&H Flanged Magnum available end of year, 2012 other calibers may 450/400....this one for rockchucks
Throw in a couple of shots with the panatela size cartridges along side.
After looking at that, I won't need viagra for a month!
Gee's that is a nice looking rifle to say the least. They say that more doubles are being built now than at anytime before the Great War. That would be World War I. And for about half of what a VW Jetta would cost. The rifle will last a whole lot longer than the car, I know about the car, my last Jetta gave up after 19.7 years of driving. My 6.5 x 55 Sako I bought the same year, just getting broken in. What load did they regulate the barrels with?
And one more thing, its another thing the French seem to do well making fine guns, beside that other thing Cooking!!!
Very nice rifle my friend! You need to bring it out for another bison!
I like this one
But I am a 375 nut so I can't help
Agreed that this is a very nice rifle. That being said, there are much better rifles for bison, and jorge already has one. It is a 45-110 Sharps 1874.

YUP!! That beautiful double rifle is appropriate for the AFRICAN buff. I think Jorge has just went off the deep end for the big 45's

Hornady factory DGX/S ammo. But I can duplicate with reloads as well as with Woodleighs. I'll have a shooting report this weekend.

Next time I plan to use my 1895 Winchester with 300gr TSXs
That will very likely be an eye opener. I seriously doubt that the 405 will put the bison down as quick as the 45-110 Sharps.
300gr TSX@2250 fps will do the trick.
First time to the range today and as the targets show, I was very satisfied, range 50yd:
Hdy Factory DGX (2152/2161fps)point of aim was at the 6'Oclock of the red bull
Hornady Handload (94.5 H4831 2132/21340) Point of aim was a red dot just above that fell off with impact:
480gr Wooleigh handload with same load data. 2113/2122 fps.

Looks like a good day to me
Hi Jorge,
I'm glad to see the frenchies have made good job soldering the barrel and zeroing the double. Enjoy it and post pictures.
Many thanks
Dom
They did a wonderful job. The rifle fits me perfectly, the fit, finish and engraving are superb and it shoots as well as it looks! jorge
Looks like a work of art....that works!
Appears all is in order and ready to hunt!
So Brudder Jorge, have ya wiped that schit eatin' grin offa yer mug yet???
Very nice rifle, jorge, congratulations. It looks like you have a fine barrel regulation, one of the most significative on double.
I've read this entire thread twice, now. Jorge getting himself one of the best is such a shocker.
I'm SO misunderstood....
I've only perused a couple pages of this 11 page thread. That said, in case someone forgot to tell Jorge . . . YOU SUCK
Congrats on your new DR jorge, I can sense the excitement in your posts. Been a long time coming but it doens't appear like you've wasted any time in wearing out those barrels!! Should do quite nicely on a couple of big ole cape buff bulls.
You sir have a gorgeous rifle. Glad to see it shoots good as well. reflex264
Thanks! here are some more test results. Look at the Woodleighs and how well they shot, albeit at considerably less velocity given the exact powder charge. Also the Hornady loads were offhand whilst the Woodleighs off the bench/
Looks to me like the cape buffalo don't stand a chance against you Jorge. That's some good shooting sir! What distance were you shooting at?
Are you going to bump up the charge under the Woodleighs to get to 2150, or smugly stop with that outstanding regulation?:)
I'm going to definitively try and bump up the speed Jeff unless I get crossover. I think that super-tight group was a fluke as the other one's I've shot have been closer to what the regulation target showed. I'll report back this weekend.
Test target:
And factory Hornady DGXs what the rifle is regulated with:
At 50 yds those two shots will make most anything pretty sick when you put them where you know they have to go. In fact at 100 they will only be twice that far apaart. Still pretty close
If you get your best regulation at 2060, go with it. My Jeffery's regulates with Woodleighs and Hawks best at less than 2100 fps, but it was also regulated for the 55g cordite tropical load and not the 60g. One elephant and several cape buffalo never missed the extra 100 fps.
Nice shooting!
Jorge, you OFFICIALLY SUCK! Congratulations and some good shooting. Hope it brings down a number buffalo before you retire.
REALLY excellent rifle there! Love it.
I hope that you DO get to go to Tanzania and shoot a couple of buff with it.
Sooooo..... you gonna sell that Sabatti now? If so, I could be interested in trying to trade you out of it.
Jeff: An extra .5gr of H-4831 brought me up to 2120 and just the same accuracy so I think I'm good! The beauty is that as of right now I can shoot Hornady softs and solids plus the Woodleigh softs to POI. I guess I should try to load some Woodleigh solids and see what happens.
Safariman, I sent the Sabbati back to Cabelas for a full refund as it was one of the ones with the grounded out barrels. jorge
Jorge, if not for the grounded barrels, would you have kept the Sabbati? How was the accuracy of the one you had? Another question: does Sabbati regulate their barrels by the laser technique or the actual shoot-solder-shoot-solder technique?
Man, I'd love another double rifle. Very nice shooting by yours.
Yes I would have, most definitively. My rifle shot EXTREMELY well, and I've posted the targets here as well. There have been many threads on the QUALITY of the way the Sabbatis were made, but I just could not get past the oblong crowns and grinded rifling.
When I set out to build this double, I tried to faithfully imitate the classic British design and lines as depicted in this classic W & C Scott double. I think the folks at Verney-Carron did a pretty faithful reproduction:
And mine:
Jorge..you suck soooooooooooo bad!
Much obliged
You suck so bad you are an official sucker!
