The eviction moratorium allows additional time for rent relief to reach renters and to further increase vaccination rates. In the context of a pandemic, eviction moratoria—like quarantine, isolation, and social distancing—can be an effective public health measure utilized to prevent the spread of communicable disease. Eviction moratoria facilitate self-isolation and self-quarantine by people who become ill or who are at risk of transmitting COVID-19 by keeping people out of congregate settings and in their own homes.

I am travelling and checked in to a hotel last night. At the front desk were a few different local newspapers as well as USA Today. The cover on the USA Today made me think of how things must have been behind the Iron Curtain...the lead story was titled something like "How Much Liberty Should Give Way for Public Safety?"

I know that they think they were being balanced, but the fact that this question exists is a sign of how bad things are, and how much worse they'll get.

The correct answer is ZERO. This country was created to be one of limited government, with the primary role of expanding and protecting liberty. At the bottom of the USA Today question is really "should the government have unlimited powers over personal decisions if government sees it in its interest to have such powers?" The answer to that used to be lead coming out of muskets. Now, idiots like me see these types of headlines and don't do a damn thing other than whine on a keyboard.

Edit to add: And the reason the Biden administration is flat out defying the Supreme Court is that they know there won't be any real repercussions, and the next step will be to force the property owners to either continue to maintain their rental/lease properties or face government confiscation, which then gives the government a monopoly on most housing (and housing demand, since the government will essentially be the landlord and the source of payment for the rental/leased properties). AOC is a moron, but she's at least transparent and has been very clear that this is what the progressives are looking to do across all areas of the economy, to essentially eliminate private ownership of property and then redistribute it based on patronage).

And now, it is directly defying the Supreme Court to continue to convert his property into Democrat property. The least they can do is pay him for his losses.

For those who don't know the Constitution, the government has to pay compensation when they take private property for public uses. It's about as far from welfare as you can get, as they are compelling an action and then paying below market compensation in most cases.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to end the federal government's temporary ban on evictions, which now is scheduled to expire in July.

The high court ruled 5-4. Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote that he thought the ban was illegal, but he noted that it is scheduled to expire soon.

The moratorium on evictions was put in place due to the financial hardship of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a nationwide eviction moratorium last year due to the pandemic.

He's is seeking money from the entity that caused him to lose the money. It's really not hard to comprehend.

Sometimes I regret selling most of my rentals a few years back but today is not one of those days. Not many little guys are going to be excited about buying a rental from here on out. I feel for that guy. The caption says he's out $24K. With 35 properties, I bet it's a lot more than that. I'm out between $50-60K right now, but in the motions to get paid by rental county assistance programs.

Had one tenant that wasn't paying call me late last summer and tell me the AC wasn't working. A lot of those calls in the summer and often because they're not changing the filters, requiring a coil cleaning. I told them rent is what pays for repairs. I didn't fix it. Have no idea if it ever got fixed. Haven't heard any more about it. Have them on catch-up program and hand deliver 3-day notices to them every month.

If the government stole from me like they did/are doing to the landlords of this country, I don't give a chit where they get the money from to pay me back. It's my damn money!

My renters dropped off the check today. The last few months I'm always relieved when it shows up. My desire to own more rentals again is pretty much gone.

I've thought about building a house in island Park and setting it up as a VRBO. However, now I'm concerned the leftists will order me to let people book as many days as they want and not allow me charge them for it. It will be part of their equity program to ensure all minorities get to go to Yellowstone.

They'll probably order that I pick them up at the airport and leave the fridge stocked for them too. As absurd as that sounds, in principle it's what is happening in long term rentals.
