CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky today signed an order determining the evictions of tenants for failure to make rent or housing payments could be detrimental to public health control measures to slow the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. This order will expire on October 3, 2021 and applies in United States counties experiencing substantial and high levels of community transmission levels of SARS-CoV-2.

The eviction moratorium allows additional time for rent relief to reach renters and to further increase vaccination rates. In the context of a pandemic, eviction moratoria—like quarantine, isolation, and social distancing—can be an effective public health measure utilized to prevent the spread of communicable disease. Eviction moratoria facilitate self-isolation and self-quarantine by people who become ill or who are at risk of transmitting COVID-19 by keeping people out of congregate settings and in their own homes.

What about the landlords? What if they need to repair the central air conditioning unit? That can cost $7,000. Maybe a roof needs repair or replacement, that can be more than an air conditioner. Where does the money come from for the landlord.

Anyone who calls for a lawsuit against the CDC for overreach is going to be seen as the worst human on earth. It can't come from a politician, would have to come from a landlord and maybe as a class action suit?

This strikes me as the epitome of our current federal government.

- Congress either didn't have the balls to do it, or knew they couldn't do it, or disagreed with it, so they tried to push to Biden
- Someone yanked the CDC chain and they did it despite the SC previous decision

So either nobody actually thought it was a good idea - and didn't have the balls to say do, or they knew it was outside their power so they all made someone else do it

This makes my fuggin blood boil. What recourse is there for the landlord who worked his ass off his entire life, and has three rental properties to provide retirement income? Rental properties are a major part of the retirement portfolios of a lot of people. Who is going to pay their damn bills?
