68. Newark, NJ
69. Greensboro, NC
70. Buffalo, NY
I guess mine would be Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Kansas City and Wichita, in that order.
Corpus Christi, naturally.
Denver.
Close to good mountain climbing and hunting. Only reason I would ever live in any city would be for those reasons.
I spent a lot of time thinking about moving back to Texas and still would love the weather, but the population of so many cities just kills it for me. I don't like the weather up here, but the lack of population offsets it. Oklahoma is a balance between the two.

DFW used to be a dang good town when I was growing up.
Seeing as how I've got some great in-laws in Kentucky, I'd probably go with Lexington or Louisville.

In between Joplin and Springfield right off the interstate, is one of the biggest denture dealers in the country. You're thinking of where Bristoe is from. When the Clampetts struck oil, lots of folks got their teeth fixed.

I don't want to leave Oregon but Portland sux IMHO. Of the larger towns in Oregon, the Eugene/Springfield area would be my first choice.

From that list, I'd probably pick Colorado Springs. My daughter is there. Got a long time internet/shootin' buddy there. Got others in Boulder and Denver, adequately nearby.

There ya go. That way, when I get my teeth knocked out for making stupid hillbilly remarks I know where I can find replacements.
I'm there!
grin
Almost all the hillbillies moved to California. Most around here now are from Illinois.
63. Anchorage, AK
Cole, in the spirit of your question, I quess my choices would be Albuquerque and Colorado Springs. Both have access to the mountains and hunting areas, stores and resturants are generally stocked with Hatch Green Chiles. Life would be good!
If someone told me I would have to go live in a big city I would run and hide. I think I would rather just die than me packed into big city life.

But if I were captured and forced my first two choices would be Portland or Seattle.
Austin, Texas....awesome music, good restaurants, beautiful motorcycle country.
I don't even like visting cities. Sure as hell wouldn't live in one.
Posted By: krp Re: Which City Would You Live In - 11/11/11
I live in 38... if I had to move, from those choices it would be Albuquerque, Colorado Springs, Anchorage.

Kent
No cities for me. Thank God, I'm a Country Boy
Baltimore, MD.
Posted By: Mink Re: Which City Would You Live In - 11/11/11
Probably Portland, OR as that is where my wife is from.
of that list Ancorage, Ak. I hate citys and try to avoid at all cost.
I've lived in a few of those cities, and there isn't one I'd want to live in again. There isn't even one on the list that I'd want to live in. Abou the only cities I would move to are:
1 St. Augustine, Fl.
2 W.P. Beach, Fl.
3 Charleston, SC
Anchorage

Louisville

New Orleans
I've been to 55 of those listed.
Posted By: temmi Re: Which City Would You Live In - 11/11/11
Houston
If I absolutely had to or die it would be Corpus Christi.
Posted By: JOG Re: Which City Would You Live In - 11/11/11
48. Minneapolis, MN - better the devil you know and all that.

Slacker! grin

I don't remember being in Mesa, AZ but I have been to every other on the list.

I would modify my list of cities I would choose to include Anchorage.
New York, mid-town Manhattan, in a 4,000 sq. ft. townhome.
How in the @#$% did Stockton CA end up on that list?

If we could chase the libs out and take back the city, San Francisco hands down.
Hank Jr?

You can send me to hell or New York City, it'd be about the same to me.

We've discussed all but KC. Wouldn't live in any of them though, just make it more convenient to get there than where we are now.
71. None of the above
Well, I'm in #15
and not a bad place to be.
I've lived all over, city, farm and field.
But I always return to Ohio

And here is where I am employed.
The winters are not too bad.

Some day I may find employment no longer needed or desired.
And might put a shack on a hill.
High enough I can roll rocks down if I so desire.

But as far as cities go?
Columbus is as good as any.
Anchorage

Louisville or Lexington er Corpus on relooking at the list

Wichita or KC

I lived in San Francisco (Marin County, actually) for 27 years. SF is probably the most beautiful city in the world but it has been ruined by the Socialists. I would not move back.

KC would be a pretty decent place were it not for the weather. Tulsa trumps it on weather and also friendliness.
LMAO.. NONE of 'em... They got Milwaukee? Murderapolis?? Detroit??

Top cities for what, high crime rates?

Pass - I'll stick to western SD..
Colorado Springs hands down, to bad Casper and Cheyenne are not on the list!
Boy, this is like choosing your own poison!! mad

From experience I guess I'd have to say:
1. - Anchorage, AK
2. - Colorado Springs, CO
3. - Albuquerque, NM

If it had to be in the Eastern part of the country I guess from what I have seen I'd say Buffalo, NY. I might not like all the snow though. laugh

Nolo comprende' today? I said "if you had to" and based the places on the top cities as to population, nothing else. These ain't my idea of the best places to live. It's just an academic exercise. Theoretical, if you will. If you don't like the parameters, don't participate, but it's not like I just pulled it all out of my asss.
The whole thing is interesting. I think most people choose the country at least, theoretically. There are drawbacks to living there too. I've lived in both and prefer the country, hands-down, but there are advantages to living in the city, I have to admit.
The only thing I miss about living in the city is there are more places to go out and eat at.
Now where I live to get any diversity we have to travel 40-50 miles to go out to eat.
You got to be real hungry.
I spent 7 years in Austin. Have no desire to return. I work in Albuquerque now. Let's just say I live a little bit out of town.

Tucson isn't bad either.

that's why i like corpus so much, its more like a big small town, than a city of 300,000, bays, laguana and gulf right here, two lakes within an hr drive and plenty of country to hunt if you have access.
Posted By: isaac Re: Which City Would You Live In - 11/11/11
Nashville or Albuquerque for me.

There are much better choices on that list than West Palm Beach. And that's from someone who is from WPB.

You're there pard!
To many people in the 70 largest, Colo.Sprgs. would be it of theses.

Anchorage #1, Colorado Springs #2, but I sure did miss real rivers when I lived in the Springs.

I didn't see it listed, but Boise might be up there. If they could just get the college to change the turf. smile

THANK GOD no "cities" from Idaho, Utah or Wyoming were on that so-called 'list!' grin
I live in Colorado Springs, so I guess that's my answer lol ...

My smart alec answer is that I would rather be dead. But, if I had a gun to my head, I probably would pick Colorado Springs (because I am familiar with it) or, maybe, Anchorage. With some due diligence I may flip the order.

If we had unlimited resources, this may not be our choice, but Cheyenne is very cost effective and a nice, family place to live with a lot of nearby outdoor opportunities.
Posted By: 700LH Re: Which City Would You Live In - 11/12/11
I'd rather not even visit any of those places
I've been in 47 of them. Probably: (1) Lexington, KY (2) Columbus, OH (3) Indianapolis, IN or Nashville, TN.

There are a lot that I might consider for a year or two IF they paid me at least $1 million per year. Even less if I didn't actually have to do "normal" things like drive back & forth to work every day. wink
I have lived in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Jacksonville, and St. Louis. In my opinion here are some things to be said for big city living. Stupid, terrible, and awful are three that come to mind.
Probably Seattle.

This question is kinda like asking which leg would you rather have broke. eek

Spare me from living in any of those pestilential places.

Yep, grew up near West Palm in Jupiter and Lake Park and I agree.

GK
Not a one. No place for a gun-toting Bohemian liberal.
Nobody picking Detroit? We like guns........

I'm pretty happy here in San Diego (#8), but there are tradeoffs.
My son lives in a small town about 35mi out of Wichita. My niece lives in a small town about 15mi out of KC. Seems like they have the best of both worlds. Small town govt/schools and big city conveniences like shopping/entertainment.

I do like KC. It has some character.

There are some nice little towns near Springfield, MO.

Are you on Whidbey Island? Lived there back in 1988.

I've lived all over the US and have been to most of the cities on the list. If I had to pick one city, Nashville would be my pick. If you like to whitetail deer hunt, you can shoot up to 3 bucks per year and 3 does per day in the surrounding counties. There are lakes and rivers close by for a wide variety of fishing.
The only one on the list that I wouldn't even go out of my way not to drive thru would be San Antonio.
I'm pretty partial to OKC and Tulsa. I also like Colorado Springs.

Expat
Probably Tucson just because I have a nephew that is a gun nut too that lives in Yuma.
I'm already there, it ain't on the list, but Bozeman, MT is still my choice. It isn't what it used to be, but it beats that list hollow, besides that, from Bozeman, you are only 25 minutes from Montana...
Hmmm... Friendship, IN ain't on the list. frown Oh well, guess I'll keep living in the country!

i do live in the sticks with in a half hour from springfeild mo.
if you live in a town with a pop. of more than 2500 and 2 stop lights i most likly ain't going to like you on first impression
None of the above. I even hate skAnchorage. It's full of mostly DSMF transients.
Posted By: Jamie Re: Which City Would You Live In - 11/13/11
If I had to choose off that list, first choice would be Anchorage
I wouldn't want to live in any of them but if I had to then New Orleans would top the list.
I've visited all of those cities except Anchorage. I would stick with Oklahoma City.
Good God, it's a list of places in hell. I've been to a lot of those cities. I happily viewed most of them in the rear view mirror.
I'd rather be broke and in jail in the boonies than be in a city and walk around with a pocketful of $$$$$$!!!
Cities don't bother me much, hell - I've been to a lot on that list, and lived in one of the largest.

I don't think I'd have much trouble being comfortable in L.A., San Francisco, New York, Chicago, San Diego, and certainly would have trouble not having a hell of a good time.

I guess I'm lucky in being comfortable and at home in whatever surroundings I'm in.

I've been to most on the list and lived in at least five on the list.

I never liked cities much which is one among many reasons I live in MT by choice, but I don't look down my nose at cities either. For me, great places to visit... and in fact I do. My father lives in midtown Manhattan (NYC) and I'd chose there just to be close to him.

He's fortunate however, he lives on the Maine Coast 6 mo's out of the year... cities wear him out too.
I have lived in:

#1. New York
#2. Los Angeles
#3. Chicago
#22. Seattle
#34. Fresno
#36. Long Beach
#58. St.Louis
#61. Riverside (born there)

Of the ones listed I would or could live in:

#30. Las Vegas (With a desert equipped jeep.)
#52 New Orleans (With a good boat.)
NYC? San Fran? Chicago? If these are the best we have to offer, no wonder this country is in such bad shape.
The list is all cities. Count me out because I wouldn't live in any of them.
San Antonio. No contest.

Yes, it's not great, but it's warm in the winter. I lived there for quite a few years.

Out of that list I would have to choose Alb. NM. It could live real small without a whole lot of effort, although I really don't like the place, far to big for me.

If more of "us" lived in those cities we woudn't be ruled by Socialists.
