sitting here watching an old movie, and working on an even older hoss pistol, and the commercials are just appalling. In an hour, I have seen the following ads:

1)get yourself a scooter, the government will pay...no cost to you.

2)get a diabetes tester and all my diabetic supplies for free...no cost to me

3)get a free cell phone...paid for by the government...free to me if I'm on welfare

4)get out of paying my past due taxes

5)get out of paying my credit card bills

a generation ago the vast majority of Americans would have been ashamed to participate in any of these.....the fact that they dominate TV ads and talk radio goes a long way to explain how we got a commie in the White House.
too true and too sad

just yesterday I was explaining to someone as dirt poor as my grandparents were, they were afforded the luxury of looking down their noses at folks that filed for bankruptancy or were receiving gov't help.

that pride vanished a long time ago amigo
The fact that they spend millions in ad dollars to advertise giving YOUR money away is also appalling...

A good observation, Steve.
that is very true, it sickens me to see the crap and hear it on the radio as well.
It's truly sad that we have become a Nation of "screw what I can do for my Country, My Country needs to do it all for me!" Probably happened about the same time we stopped being "One Nation under GOD"
Between those and the Viagra, Cialis, Levitra ads I just about have quit watching the TV.
This is just one of the reasons I no longer watch TV.
Get a DVR and don't watch commercials..

LOL. Don't forget Nuvaring or whatever it is.
With all due respect for the OP.
The adds for the vulture groups, that promise to get your disability approved or collect money for some obscure reaction to some drug or medical procedure.

ain't that the truth. Now people brag about being on gov assistance. Bankruptcy is now a legit option.

=============

If you swallow a few of them, you won't have time for TV. Sometimes, for over four hours, from what I've heard.
How about all the Obama internet ads...you can run but you can't hide.
I was watching TV with my daughter and one of her friends last week when an ad came on for KY lubes....two people sitting in bed talking about how much fun they had with KY. Talk about awkward moment.

the degenerate and explicit sexual stuff is a whole separate issue, but I guess it's all just part of the great downward spiral that began in the early 60s.
Here are my additional observations about it:

Whether in commercials or on shows, men are depicted as weak buffoons, or are absent altogether in time of need. (Witness those ADT ads.) Women, however, are the new "man of the house" and are always smarter and more capable.

Celebrities are the only people on earth who matter, have valid opinions, or contribute to society. Every celebrity death is treated as a reason for national mourning.

Hey guys, remember, the thing to be really scared of are the jesus freaks, gun owners and every white guy....

They are the only ones capable of hurting people whistle wink

Someone's money to pay YOUR bills....this facade won't keep up for long.
saw that one while we were in the hotel in Anc last weekend

thought it was perfect timing

with Mom's day right around the corner I'm hoping they have a buy one get one half off sale

that way I can get a tube for my wife and my mother!
I was watching TV late the other night and there was a 30 minute infomercial on, selling every type of dilldo imaginable.

Hard to believe.

This.

Rocky, ya beat me to it. And they wonder why so many young guys are like Peter Pan. ---- never grow up.

Also good observations.
It all seems to revolve around believing "make believe".

Reality WILL intrude.
that's a good point.....mainstream TV is utterly devoid of characters who are white, male, providers for their families, and reasonably intelligent.

characters like Robert Young on Father Knows Best, or Ward Cleaver, have given way to degnerates like Charlie Sheen, or just hapless losers.
Boobtube writers have made viewers puerile junkies. Oxymoronic copycat creativity.
Being a pawn shop whore I see those little scooters for sale all the time.

I've noticed the same, and it is sickening.
Makes me glad I seldom watch TV these days.
About the only thing on in my house are cartoons that the kids watch or the Military Channel that my boy watches. Sometimes the wifey catches up on her soaps on the Soap Opera Channel. When somebody wanders off the range we get crap like y'all are talkin' about.

We watch us some local news, oncet awhile, but it's all about one thing now. Swamp People, American Pickers, Pawn Stars...they all get some play. Thas about it.
I am tired of the constant barrage telling me of all the medical issues that are probably lurking within me as well as go on to tell me which prescription medicines to tell my doctor that I need.

I also am tired of seeing overpriced and over-gadgeted vehicles pushed at me when there are not simple, serviceable alternatives available.

Obviously, you are not the intended target audience. You are the person that will be expected to provide these benefits for the severely down-trodden of this nation. See I remembered the sarcasm font color. grin
+1 on the DVR. Thats the only way I watch TV anymore.

Meant to Desynsatize your daughter. This is the exact group they are targeting. Gays control the major networks and are teaching the young to buy into it. It has worked. Look how many Fire Members don't have a problem with homosexuals and post about it. They have accepted it, because they have been taught to. TV is powerful...very powerful.

yeah, the taxpayers buy them, then the downtrodden sell them for crack money.

If the U.S. had remained a rural nation, these culture destroying practices could never had taken hold.

Once the gov't involved itself in farming with subsidies and outright grants, rural pride evaporated within a generation.

For instance,no one could ever convince a rural kid that homosexuality is just an "alternate lifestyle",or,"God made them that way".

Of,corse,you are not.

I was going to bring up the homos. They're everywhere. If you watch American tv you'd believe every third guy is a [bleep]. Well, if it's true, then every third guy needs to get back in his damn closet and STFU.

Yep.
There's exactly one commercial on that shows a man as a real father. It's that car commercial where he's leaning in the window, telling his darling eight-ish daughter to not drive on the freeway, to call him, but not while she's driving, and so forth. Then in an eye-blink, she turns into a (VERY attractive) 16 year-old.

He's caring, firm, trusting, gentle - and he's a DAD.

Clearly. My 13 year old son Tony, whom you have met, has commented on the scooters. Sickening. He gets it. Number one son still needs some work, unfortunately. Kids...
Yeah that schits all "free" alright. Then why the hell don't I start making any money for me until along about wednesday every week ?
One of the most important lessons we need to teach our children in today's society is media literacy. Kids are very perceptive, and once alerted to how various media present messages and who's behind those messages, they actually become very conscious and discerning of those messages and their presentation.

Bottom line, I believe that if we teach our kids right, we won't have to worry about what they see on TV.

(But I'm still not going to let them watch The Borgias..)
Behold the Electric scooter of the hood:
Steady, green and quiet. With the swiftist of grace, like an arrow, they shoot forth from behind parked cars and onto the humanity of concrete deftly traversing the stream of baby strollers and trash-filled shopping carts.
Thousands of years ago, I took a course called "Propaganda Analysis" to fulfill an English requirement. It turned out to be one of the best classes I ever took.
Our darling daughter did her 7th grade science project on packaging and marketing of snacks for young children.. Complete with surveys of third graders and how much they ate out of various packaging and color/graphics schemes..

We were so proud of her. She gets it..

didn't happen to be any on in that hour, but usually there would have been a few asbestos whores and a bunch of drug product liability prospectors....equally disgusting.

Could you be a little more specific? (phone numbers, and such)
it's the free market, functioning as it should.

we don't like? turn to another channel. don't like that channel, then find another one, ad infinitum.

the pharmaceuticals selling drugs retail bugs me. i tune out. the lawyers suing the pharmaceuticals for selling bad drugs bugs me. i tune out.

they (the private, regligous, and gov't school systems) have trained us to be a nation of consumers. buy something, then pay tax on it is the general idea. the more stuff sold, the more the sales tax revenue, and other tax revenue. it's a good game.

just play the game. we all know it's a game.

Of course not. That's what cows and sheep were for.
If they're giving away free scooters, I'll take one like Bristoes.

How does one apply?
African Americans make up about 13% of the US population but based on our TV commercials you'd think it was about 50%. They are almost always portrayed as; in charge, smarter, cooler, kinder, funnier, etc. Can't recall seeing one wearing a hoodie either.

I've noticed that too.
Always with the racial sh*t.

This. The percentage of negro judges portrayed on TV runs at about 90%.

It's social engineering by the libs in NYC and Hollywoo...and it's obvious. The problem is that most people are complete dumbschits and they can't see it.

It's not because Hollywood hates men.

It's because Madison Avenue recognizes that men don't buy most of the stuff being advertised.

Strong women, weak men. It makes a woman feel good. Makes her want to spend money.

and the fact that every commercial denigrates, and makes fun of the Father, while always showing the Mother as the strong, knowledgeable intelligent one.
The White man is always portrayed as the idiot, with a person of color as the smart one.
Mixed race couples are prominent in commercials now. Gays are proudly displayed..............

the list goes on and on
what channels are you guys watching?

That was inevitable under Federalism.
TV must suck for some of you fellas. Id hate it to if I broke down every commercial I saw.

rabble rabble rabble
Must suck to to be blind.

Hey! No Fair paying attention, and understanding how advertising and free enterprise work!

You are supposed to be striking out blindly at anything that doesn't look, sound, act or think like you!

try and keep up!

Lets not forget the obscene number of commercials for the insurance companies. Waaaay outta hand!
Hey, at least the Progressive Girl is portrayed accurately as the bimbo with an empty skull.

that is a very real commercial to me

Does anyone else think of Bristoe when they see that add for Subaru?

Maybe I have seen a picture of him that reminds me of this dad or something but it brings him to mind instantly when this ad is running. When the little girl says Daddy, ok and then transforms into a teen aged girl chokes me up.

Gotta love TV commercials, especially those related to prescription pharmaceuticals!

This year, we learn that last year's wonder prescriptions may entitle you to compensation if they've killed you.

Commercials that hype this year's medical miracles all include very fine print, very briefly, warning that "No case is typical. You can not expect similar results." (One even warns that Catshtomycin may even make your problem worse.)

The commercial for one OTC pill warns you to consult your physician
(a) before you take it
and
(b) before you quit taking it.

And of course I believe 'em all.

Every word.
