and the fact that every commercial denigrates, and makes fun of the Father, while always showing the Mother as the strong, knowledgeable intelligent one. The White man is always portrayed as the idiot, with a person of color as the smart one. Mixed race couples are prominent in commercials now. Gays are proudly displayed..............
the list goes on and on

sitting here watching an old movie, and working on an even older hoss pistol, and the commercials are just appalling. In an hour, I have seen the following ads:
1)get yourself a scooter, the government will pay...no cost to you.
2)get a diabetes tester and all my diabetic supplies for free...no cost to me
3)get a free cell phone...paid for by the government...free to me if I'm on welfare
4)get out of paying my past due taxes
5)get out of paying my credit card bills
a generation ago the vast majority of Americans would have been ashamed to participate in any of these.....the fact that they dominate TV ads and talk radio goes a long way to explain how we got a commie in the White House. That was inevitable under Federalism.

And what's the problem with that? This coming from some eunuch working on his 4th divorce is hilarious..
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

Strong women, weak men. It makes a woman feel good. Makes her want to spend money. That be the truth. I just hope I don't ever get any of that constipationdiarreahheadache crap that apparently is going around . . .

Whether in commercials or on shows, men are depicted as weak buffoons, or are absent altogether in time of need. (Witness those ADT ads.) Women, however, are the new "man of the house" and are always smarter and more capable. It's not because Hollywood hates men. It's because Madison Avenue recognizes that men don't buy most of the stuff being advertised. Strong women, weak men. It makes a woman feel good. Makes her want to spend money. Hey! No Fair paying attention, and understanding how advertising and free enterprise work! You are supposed to be striking out blindly at anything that doesn't look, sound, act or think like you! try and keep up! Sycamore
...Actually Sycamore, you are sort of right....

Then in an eye-blink, she turns into a (VERY attractive) 16 year-old.
He's caring, firm, trusting, gentle - and he's a DAD.
that is a very real commercial to me Does anyone else think of Bristoe when they see that add for Subaru? Maybe I have seen a picture of him that reminds me of this dad or something but it brings him to mind instantly when this ad is running. When the little girl says Daddy, ok and then transforms into a teen aged girl chokes me up. Joel

Gotta love TV commercials, especially those related to prescription pharmaceuticals!
This year, we learn that last year's wonder prescriptions may entitle you to compensation if they've killed you.
Commercials that hype this year's medical miracles all include very fine print, very briefly, warning that "No case is typical. You can not expect similar results." (One even warns that Catshtomycin may even make your problem worse.)
The commercial for one OTC pill warns you to consult your physician (a) before you take it and (b) before you quit taking it.
And of course I believe 'em all.
Every word.
"Good enough" isn't.
Always take your responsibilities seriously but never yourself.
