Gents,

Have a synthetic stock that's an "extra" for a Winchester I'm rehabbing. While I work on the wood stock, I'm going to paint the synthetic just for fun. Bring forth some inspiration!

None of those look like a rattle can pattern. Am I missing something?
[EDIT] Not saying they aren't great, but the OP asked for rattle can patterns. Maybe that's not what he really meant? The sponge patterns look great.
Nothing beats GAP camo IMO. Some painters tape and a razor blade and Krylon rattle can camo in black, OD, and tan. Spray the whole thing OD, then cut some camo shapes for the black and tan and go to town.

Looks like anything goes in this thread. ha ha..

Applied with a rattle can isn't rattle can camo?

Hmm, ok.

Grab some sticks and leaves and stuff then and let your Hobby Lobby light shine bright......
Sponges and leaves and stuff all count as long as the paint came out of a rattle can. (I use torn up sea sponge for pattern and texture.)
Not really a favorite. Only one I've ever done. 700 SPS in 270 with a big farm doe [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

I'm lazy. This took about 15 minutes. Sprayed tan, then black web, then a couple coats of satin clear coat.

Would prefer a real camo but this is better than the beat up original.
Before rifle stocks we used to do our guitar bodies with this hydro dip method with Krylon spray paint

Some years back I was asked to do a YouTube vid with a rifle stock, so here ya go !

John_boy did these for me

Following.....have one that needs paint as well and I am too cheap to have a pro do it.

Do you guys apply a clear coat over the paint or just rock paint for easy touch ups?
Satin clear in a can works for me.
I fail to see why rifle stocks need much if any camo as long as they are matte. And TV hunters? in blinds with face camo?? WTF
Man, you guys are talented with rattle cans! If I tried that it would look like a second grade art project!

Dead flat clear works well with camo. I like to clear coat every stock I paint, because the clear really helps to protect the finish from getting all scratched up. YMMV..

I’m fairly sure you already knew this but no one is painting their stock camo in order to hide it from game.

I usually do 2-3 coats of the clear satin over the paint. If you've used a sponge or something else for texture, the clear coat won't diminish it.

Problem is, it's getting hard to find many rifles with decent wood stocks anymore. My 7-08 Montana that has all the appeal of a hammer.
These are my two recent. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't do the one with brown base and black and gold webbing very much justice. In person the brown base really makes the gold and black pop.

I tend to like the scratches, dents, scrapes and what not from using a gun. If I know when it occurred each one is a memory. MY BIL and Sister like PERTY guns. Wood and bluing which is fine but I will take a synthetic rattle can paint job versus a perty wood Browning. But that is just me!! Guns are tools to me. I don't have a rusted gun inside or out. If it is a modern gun and won't shoot MOA down the road it goes.

There are tons of them out there... most of them just aren't new. Almost done refinishing a Husky 1640 stock that's going to look better than 99% of what's rolling off production lines today.

You can keep your schidty looking guns too. When it comes time to sell them, you'll likely not get much for them. The difference between mine and yours. Use, does not mean abuse. Learn to take care of your schidt, or not...

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion. For me a manners or other quality stick with good paint is much more appealing than the nicest walnut.

I’ve got a couple of rifles with factory camo and spider web finishes. Never done a rifle myself. My waterfowl guns on the other hand, have rattle can camo jobs. Some pretty good and others hideous.
I've put rattle can & spider web finishes on a number of my rifles and a shotgun.
Two Weatherby Vanguards, .223 and .308 Win.

I kind of like alternating wider bands of contrasting colors with an overspray using mesh cloth. Easy enough.

Kimber Montana and other synthetic stock rifles may shoot fine, but I'm sick of synthetics. Maybe a result of time in Vietnam and the M-16. I prefer, and am willing to tend to walnut and blued rifles, but not lots available lately.
Krylon Camo...(same rifle with rattle can touch ups over the years...)

Always kinda thought it was funny how much matching expensive modern camo gets hunted from inside a deer blind.
Meanwhile men who hunt and stalk for a living around the globe do so, more often than not, with plaid, tweed, khakis, wool, walnut and blue steel.
To that ends. My favorite non wood rifle over the past wood has been the one I had cerakote.
I call it OJ.
Same pattern as this...

Love the look of walnut. Love the practicality of synthetic.
Camo for whenever you are hunting something color blind, or just plain blind....

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]
The only reason I ended up with a Kimber Montana was because my Kimber Classic 7-08 had misfires. The problem was a cracked receiver. They could not replace the same rifle, so I took a Montana 7-08. I much preferred the Classic.
Just finished this Savage 111. Got it cheap because it had a 7mm Rem Mag barrel that was rusty and pitted inside and out. Rebarreled with match-grade 24"/1-8/5R/stainless/fluted/threaded X-Caliber 7 PRC barrel. Action and barrel are Cerakoted graphite black. Factory trigger (non-AccuTrigger), factory birch stock, bedded and floated. First attempt at rattle can. Got a little heavy with black on the buttstock but I like it. Other side is not so heavy on the black. Infinite Product Solutions brake, treaded to accept a blast redirector. Scope is a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 with EBC-2 reticle. Will probably go hunting but mostly for long range target play.

I'm just the opposite. My .300 Wby Vanguard with it's AA Fancy walnut stock that I made and hand checkered for it.
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

And because I don't like to hunt with it in foul weather, last summer I fitted it with this Wby Griptonite stock.
