First thing I would do is order up myself a Swirly.......
Classic Select Claro 308 Win
WOW! Thanks everyone. - Much appreciated.
QUESTION:Who makes the stock for the Montana and what is it made of?
Dunno who makes it (Kimber?), but it's a full-length (not chopped glass) laid stock w/ Kevlar. Decelerator pad included. Top-notch. Also handles recoil almost miraculously well.
The montana stock is great. The pad is nice and soft which takes the sting out of the recoil very well. My 338 Fed jumps pretty good off of the bench, but it is still fairly pleasant to shoot.
The LAST thing I would do after buying a montana is spend another 500 bucks on a McSwirly, even though they are pretty cool sometimes.
Yep spend 1K on the rifle and dump another 1/2k on a puke ugly Mcyuckly for no reason.
I want a Montana in 25-06, wood stock is strictly a fair weather safe queen....grin
Nice pics, Huntsman and SamO.

Apparently that ram didn't read that only stainless synthetic rifles work in Alaska.
You guys are killin' me with these pics. Hunting season needs to get here quick so I can hang one with the Montana 260.
Outstanding pics all.

Amazing what a re-crown did for this 7-08:

Season opens Aug 15th here in SC. The Velvet Buck my wife is holding was killed Aug 15th, about 3 years ago.
Thanks for the pics of some good lookin' rifles folks, Sam O. I love the pic of your rifle with the antelope!
Then there's that dall.....

Well, don't lose any sleep over it - McMillan doesn't make a stock for a Kimber 84, or a 8400 for that matter...
Here's a couple of wood kimbers

Here's mine in 30-06. A straight up weapon of mass destruction. It shoots 180 Hornady's about .75" everytime I check its zero. Its my only Kimber rifle at this time. Im on the hunt for a 260 or a short mag of sorts as we speak.
Joseph
Huntsman is that a 260-killed elk?
How could that be?
The wooden stocked Kimbers are absolutely beautiful. Thanks all for sharing the pictures.

Jeff,
Kahles Helia CL 2-7x36 (4A reticle - 1" tube)
Nice little scope - wish I could scrounge up a couple more.
Holding my breath that I never have to send it in for service.
Rifle with last year's late season doe shot at 400, 100 yard group. 7 WSM.
Is that the rifle that had to make the journey to Pacnor before it would shoot?
Nope, it shot fine, it was a .270 WSM and I wanted a 7 WSM.
It does shoot a little better now though.
Classic stainless 7-08. Need to take better pics, but it's in a Montana stock now...

What caliber is this rifle chambered in?
Huntsman is that a 260-killed elk?
How could that be?
Nah, That elk was just laying there in the woods, taking a dirt nap. I put on my injun suit, and snucked up on him to get a pic of my Kimber for the OP.
Everybody knows a 260 is too dinky for alks.......
Like everyone, you missed the damn coin though!
He was showing off shooting a circle around it!
Anyone had trouble with the wood-stocks moving around?
What caliber is this rifle chambered in?
That would be a 300 wsm. Shoots 168 TTSX quite well!
This is my same 7-08 but it wore a 4.5x14 early in it's life
Next time I go to the range I'll post a pic of the 4-5moa groups mine is currently producing. 84M 7/08
You've had more than one person offer to take that POS off your hands, yet you still have it, which tells me something..
GW, That's one of the best, if not the best, looking Montana's I've seen. What all did you do to it?
It's a .338 Federal that already had the Rick Bin paint job on the stock when I bought it. A couple months ago I had all the metal Teflon coated by Blackice Coatings here in Utah.
I bought it thinking it would be the ideal close-cover spot and stalk bear rifle and ended up killing an Idaho black bear with it in May at 340 yards. Go figure!...

Very cool!
Details? Bullet? And yes, that is a nice looking Kimber.
Factory 180gr Accubond, 340 yards at the far edge of a meadow ranged with Leica 10x42 Geovids at last light, 45 minutes spent looking with flashlights (talk about hair raising!), recovered the following morning about 80 yards from where I'd seen him go into the thick stuff.
GW, let's hear the story. I would love to know the details of the Fed on the bear.
Did the bullet exit? How big was the bear? Where did you hit the bear? Beautiful rifle.
Aw, hell, just get close and use this one.
Aw, hell, just get close and use this one.
That's how John Basilone woulda done it.
No doubt...
Not to slam their rifles or jack the thread, but my collection includes only two Kimbers. One is the Montana and the other is the pictured Eclipse II. Of the two, I'd part with the rifle a hundred times over before I'd part with that particular .45.
I have a pro carry. I like it a lot and I have shot thousands of rounds thorugh it. But at the end of the day, I'll take a revolver for real pistol work.
I have several I'm fond of... but we're straying out of Kimber territory. Don't want to upset the Kimberites.
Now Smith and Wesson, they make a quality firearm... I walked into a store today and was really thinking about getting a 257 Montana on order. I want a Bob, but I would have to make room in my safe. I can't justify selling good guns to myself. A true damned if you do, damned if you don't type of situation.
In my book, there's ALWAYS room for a .257. I just happen to prefer the Roy.
It's a .338 Federal

Thats not possible! Everybody knows .338 feds are limited to 200 yards max. Maybe 250 with the right shooter, over-max pressure loads, and the right moon phase.
