I saw on another website that if you had one with a groved trigger it was OK, but if a smooth one, it was subject to a recall. That makes mine OK. I have not checked Remington's website for confirmation. I'm curious as to how long it would take to get one back from them if you sent it in. Might be better to avoid the hassle and time to just exchange it for a Timney at your expense and be done with it.

I have two that are on their list. One has a timney. The one with the suspect trigger has worked just fine for hundreds of rounds.

I filled out their form anyway. They will be sending me a box with a shipping label. Wonder what POS trigger they will put on these rifles this time? Bet it has creep and the pull is 8 lbs.

Remington should just arrange a deal with timney and be done with their "engineers" reinventing the wheel.

It's a one beer job at the most.

It takes longer after a six pack.

Rifle Basix are easy to install! No fitting required of the trigger. Drilling is required to uniform the mounting holes of the trigger. Very simple to do. Never used Timney or Shilen both which are great triggers from what I hear. Rifle Basix have worked for 3 of my rifles without any issues.

I love the little 'keeper pins' that Timney includes. Those make them even more simple to do. If you can drive a nail, you can remove/install a trigger. Just get the proper sized punches so you don't booger up the mounting holes.

The only tricky part for me was remembering how that bolt stop spring fits in there. It's not hard, but I had to pull another rifle apart to look at it.

MM (or anybody else that has them)- what's to like/not like about the flat trigger shoe Timney and the "normal" curved shoe?

IIRC, when we were putting one in my buddies rifle he let the bolt stop pin all the way out and we had the same PITA remembering/reassembling it.

When I put one in my 5R I made sure to not withdraw the pin all the way thus keeping the stop in place. Absolute cinch to replace and a real drop in.

On a side note, when I was shopping for a new rifle I added the cost of a Timney and a better stock (minimum B&C) to the cost 'savings' of the 700.

I now have two Tikkas.... smile

(Can't speak of others but Kimber and Tikka sure know how to design a proper trigger)

About time Remington did something about the X-Mark Pro trigger. They suck!

Shane - google-fu is your friend, youtube vid on putting in a Timney, shows the spring if needed to get a visual wink Next time...

Mojo, one might figure as many 700s that have been sold, they would re-invest and GET IT RIGHT for once. Indeed never hear these issues with other rifles.

But then again, lives were also lost b/c GM did not spend 57 CENTS per ignition switch....I digress. Bean counters rule/ruin the world.....

I have 3 Remmy 700's, one that's a part of this recall....

It will be getting a new Timney installed very soon, I just ordered one for it. Not letting Remington touch the rifle, sounds like they screwed it up the first time, they aren't getting a second chance from me.... :-)

When I was crossing the border into Canada, they asked if I had any firearms with me. I said, "Well, what do you need?"

Should just be the XMark Pro. But nothing some time and acetone wouldn't fix either way.

I'm curious as to whether you've done this yourself to fix this recall issue or do you know someone who has? Anything to keep from having to send a new rifle back to Remington would be helpful if it actually works.

I've cleaned up a lot of 700 triggers with solvents and even lighter fluid and then dried them with compressed air. I also realize that some nail polish removers have acetone in them. But, if the sealer Remington uses is a different type of polymer than nail polish, you could end up with a potentially gummy residue in the trigger. Maybe not.

Thanks in advance.

I have done this. Get a big jug of acetone from the hardware, out it in a metal vessel (old coffee can) and let it sit. Blow out, repeat...than flush with lighter fluid and let dry. Re-Apply an appropriate amount of nail-polish on the screws.

Has anyone on the Campfire had an unintentional discharge with their X-Mark Pro trigger?

Looking for personal experience here, not Joe said Bob saw one...

Have used my 700 AAC for a couple of years now w/o issue. Shoots well and I really don't wish to send it in.

They say the recall is "no cost to you", but a free box of ammo to sight it in again when returned would be more useful than a 40% discount on stuff I don't want.

IF I had a Remington 700 ( and there is a 270 BDL tempting me) replacing the trigger with a non Remington trigger would be a first step for sure.

16Bore - have a new 700 (M40LongRange) in .30/06 with XproMark so I can understand the recall. But also have a 700 XCR in
.375H7H bought in March 2007 also recalled. It does not have an externally adjustable trigger ala XproMark (no screw hole in trigger) so I have to wonder what's wrong with that one. One poster has a logical solution for $110...buy a Timney as I have no faith in what Remington MIGHT replace the recalled triggers with. A sad state of affairs. Homesteader

Reloader7RM - +1 on that thought. Couldn't get it right the first time so what trust is there they'll do it right the second attempt. Remington must love shooting themselves in the foot over and over again (pun intended). Homesteader

Apparently that seems to be the truth.

How many redesigns and recalls can one gun go through before they get it right. I've wondered for years why they think a safety that only locks the trigger is better then the way every other manufacture on the planet uses. Seems like it was designed by the board directors rather then their engineers.

Since around 1991, Remington has screwed up what pre-existing 'good' designs they had, by piss poor mfg/QC. I grew up as a kid owning mostly Remington guns. I've been afraid to own one for years, save for pre90s guns or as a build where everything was getting 'fixed', anyway. Maybe they'll improve with the move.
