Why didn't Savage stamp the caliber in the rotors? The 22HP rotors I have are all stamped with 22. None of the others I have are stamped. Arrggg...

Anyway, rant over. Anyone have a 303 rotor they want sell? Doesn't have to be the entire thing, just the brass part is fine. If it matters, and it seems like it might, it's for a first year 1899. It looks like the brass part is different on the receivers with the round counter windows. I have all styles of the other rotor parts so whatever you have I'm willing to take a chance on. I would probably be open to trades if there's one you need.

I've posted about this rifle before. It was a basket case with a tweaked receiver. I got the receiver back in shape and you can't even tell anything was done. Even with a straight edge. Anyway, putting it back together and it looks like the rotor is from a 250 and the cartridge guide is from something else, presumably a 303S by the looks of it. Patina matches is rest of the gun but the rotor is pretty shiny and hits on the guide.

Thanks.

If you can identify what you need from a lineup I can help you.

Savage was inconsistent in marking their carriers (imagine that!). I have some 303 that are marked, some unmarked. Ditto 25-35. Within the limits of my experience, all 22 HP were marked. I seem to remember a 30-30 that was marked, but it was too long ago to be sure; might have been a 303 that I used in a 30-30.

My 30/30 takedown 99F has a 303 stamped on the rotor. Don't know why or how it got that way. Its 1923 vintage, been in my father's or my possession since 1939. Works fine except the numbers don't line up right in the counter hole.

Damnesia, I may be late to the party but I might have a 303 rotor. It's out of my grandfather's first hunting rifle, don't know if it's stamped. Story goes he bought the rifle in 1933 as OCT barrel 303 for $15.00. Action is 1910 date. He thought it was too heavy. The rifle now has a 24" tapered Savage address stamped barrel, but it's chambered in 32 Win Spl! He made a beautiful crescent buttstock and schnabel fore end out of curly maple. I would be happy to send you pics when I'm able to get to my gun safe 90 miles from home. Trying to figure out how to upload pics from my phone, don't have a computer. So far it says my pic files are to large. - Scott

You don't have a high enough post count to get PMs and I don't want to put my email or phone number, or you could send the pics to me and I would post them for you. Always want to see old 99s!
