What wasn't normal about it? Weather?
I've pulled that tag a couple times but ended up using it later on blacktails. I did kill a benchleg up near the PCT, but with a regular blacktail tag. It had a very long body and/or short legs.
High Cascades was my 2nd choice to Steens this year. Do you put in for it as a 1st or 2nd choice?

Preliminary and subject to adjustment tomorrow upon full autopsy.... the 162 Amax hit the onside ribs and grenaded in the chest. No exit. No HINT of an exit. I've seen that exact same performance from the 162 Amax... interested to hear your report. Forgot about this. As it turned out it hit the scapula and destroyed it, then into the chest where 162 grains of bullet vanished <g>. Something made it far enough to make a visible bruise on the outside of the opposite flank. I'd call it ok for a LR bullet at 90 yards. Reinforces my opinion that I don't want to use it on elk, not that it likely wouldn't "work", but it's a bullet lookin' for excuses to "fly to flinders" as Bob used to say. I was gonna try the 162 ELD-X on this deer but when push came to shove, at this spot, which has sight lines out to 800 or so, I defaulted back to the Amax.

I like mine that i bought on sale also. I don't have any other 8x to compare them to except cabelas/meopta and bushnell 32s. The toric is definitely brighter but should be. I usually use 10x. I would like to compare the 8x toric to the 10x.

First gut job someone has to guide. But I have to say I have not been that excited over a buck in a long time. It was like I killed a 150" buck on the blacktail happy meter. Lol. He is a great kid. The 105 hpbt in the 243 hurt more than needed for 100# deer.

Two bucks now down 16 left 100% is the normal but it's an odd year with some quality buck tags making use complacent last year we went 17 for 17 on deer hope that's the case again.

That's really cool. It's no small thing getting someone a blacktail. You just made a hunter!

Been windier then shcitt over here Fred and deer are off their game. 2 tags to go.
My season was too damn easy. Left the truck with the 300WM for a walk to a big open canyon. Looked up over the truck on the way out to see 4 nice whitetails bedded on a ridge above the farm house. Ranged them at 676yds and dialed wind and elevation. When the biggest buck stood up he caught a 212 eld-x into the shoulder, yep overshot the wind call by about 8". Bullet went straight into the shoulder joint, raked the body and exited just in front of the offside rear hip.
10 minutes into the season and I had a very nice 4x4 whitetail with brow tines on the dirt. Raining like the huns of hell so no field pictures.
