.414 SuperMag Shotshells

Made up some .41 Magnum shot loads out of .414 SuperMag brass. It was quite effective...
(This should also work for a .44 Magnum using .445 SuperMag Brass)

Lube the case

Size with carbide sizing die

Prime

Bell

5.0 grains of Bullseye (most any fast burning powder will do).

Lyman Gas Check cup up inserted in the mouth and then tapped to the bottom with a correct size wooden dowel or length of brass or steel rod. Rod should be close to the diameter of the inside of the gas check cup to keep the GC straight and so it won't bulge the bottom but undersized enough so it won't get hung up in the gas check.

165 grains of shot

90 grain .410 ball is placed on top of the shot and seated in place with the seating die. This will compress the shot somewhat.

Remove the seating stem and screw the seating die so that the top 25% or so of the case has been reduced in size. (This is why the case should be lubed)

Using a 10mm/.40 S&W Taper Crimp die repeat the above. This will allow the case mouth to enter the chamber throats.

Shooting test was conducted at 10' with a 2.75" Ruger Redhawk.

Test target was a heavy steel pineapple juice can.

The can was peppered with shot many of which punched through the steel can (#8 shot). There were two larger holes going in and one coming out. Upon shaking out the contents of the can, besides a bunch of shot it was found that the gas check was what punched the second hole through the can.

A 9" paper plate was then shot at 10' to see what the actual pattern was...it was excellent...with two big holes in it. Considering that this was only a 2.75" barrel I was very happy.
